Christmas shopping in Udon

Postby trubrit » November 23, 2011, 8:16 pm

Just a heads up of some items suitable for Xmas that are appearing on the shelves. In Tops today , very pleased to see a range of Baxter gourmet soups there , including my two favourites, lobster bisque, a delicious mix of lobster, cream and brandy and a soup made from stilton cheese, asparagus and wine . I thought very reasonably priced at 99bht a can .They also had tinned cans of ham at 350bht .Makro have some all meat turkey rolls at 150bht a kilo as well as butterball turkeys at 250 bht kilo. For anyone like me that considers Xmas is a family time to be spent at home it's time to go shopping .

Still no sign of Sultanas for the xmas cake yet in the main supermarkets.
Seventh Xmas in Udon, and EVERY year without fail there has been no sultanas between August and January

You would have thought by now that I would remember to buy my Xmas cake stuff in July, but I still keep saying it will be alright this year :-"

If sultanas are dried white grapes, then I've seen 200g+- boxes in the old Ngeesoon next to the corn flakes.

The new Ngeesoon had small packs of Ligo raisins today, 10 baht a box.....it might take a few boxes to make your cake. You might try the old Ngeesoon on Phosri Rd...I think I've seen bigger boxes there.

Off the subject just a bit. Funny how widely Christmas is celebrated here in Thailand basiclly a Buddhist country weather its for monatary purpose or what ever. but in countries like the UK and the USA which is mostly christian it is forbidden to say merry Christmas, can't call them christmas trees, etc., etc. don't want to offend none christians.

Was in Makro's today....

The turkey is the cheapest price in town, 155baht a kilo, Norbest, a USA company based in Utah.
One Butterball turkey left.
No frozen brussel sprouts left, just a empty space in the freezer.
