Class 1 Car Insurance

Postby classygeezer » August 7, 2011, 12:11 pm

I recently purchased a new Mazda,as part of the package I received a Years free Insurance and Tax.I am concerned that the level of cover the Policy offers for Third Party Medical expenses cover is woefully inadequate. The figure for Medical Expenses is 50,000 (This would buy one 2/3 days in AEK Udon) The Company have agreed to increase the cover to 200,000 per person, but refuse to cover at the figure which I consider to be a minimum which is 500,000.

I read a posting on another Falang Website in which the Author detailed an incident in which his Wife hit a Scooter rider breaking his leg,by the time the poor victim had been taken to BKK for Plastic Surgery to hide the Scars the 500,000 figure was looming large.

I refuse to put myself in the position of having to claim on my Insurance only to find that the Sums Insured are inadequate to cover the liability and that,I rather than my Insurer am left facing the cost.In fact my car is in the Garage where it will remain until I am happy that my insurance cover will do waht it says on the Tin,COVER ME!!

It has been my experience in Thailand that One must not put Oneself at risk especially if that risk is avoidable in the first place,as when things start to go bad here the poor old Farang is on his own!!

Any suggestions please

classygeezer, I recently got quotes from half dozen insurance carriers before renewing with AA Insurance Brokers. It appears that most companies have their own unique packages, and unlike in the West, one cannot change limits of coverage within the package. You simply upgrade to a more expensive package with higher limits all the way around. Mine looks like this: (Click the photo to enlarge)

Hello Malc, did you mean you are liable for a Third Parties Medical Expenses.Or are you the one who was in Intensive care? Adequate cover for third Party medical expenses is what I am attempting to understand.I guess however if it cost you one Million Baht the same could apply to a third Party for whom you or rather your Insurer were liable! And with cover of 200,000 which is the best I can find it appears I may be coming up rather short!!!

Hi Semperfiguy,Thanks for the Information, your insurance is quite similar to mine, some of your coverages are higher, but your cover for Third Party Medical expenses is the same as the upgrade I have been offered (200,000)
My gut instinct tells me that this amount is insufficient but unless I can find anything substantially better I guess I may as well stick with the policy I have. When my renewal comes around in 10 Months hopefully I will have found a Company who offer Third Party medical cover for minimum 500,000. Thanks again

Class 1 Car Insurance

Hi,
Have not had a prang in the car yet. Just the usual little knocks when you park the car. From other drivers i must add.
Wifes eldest daughter was hit by a car on her motor bike. Not her fault i must say. She spent 3 nights in hospital, The Paolo hospital, as it was called then. She had a fully equiped room to herself. The costs for this was about 12,000B and was paid for by us, and claimed of the car driver later. The police were involved and stated it was the car drivers fault.
When i went to AEk, for my med. for a drivers lic., i was quoted 250B, i refused and went to Paolo hospital, 100B. for the same med.
My friend who is German, had to have a op on his back. The Quote from AEK was 95,000B. He went to the military hospital. The costs were 32,000B for the same op. etc.. They did a very good job. This was 8 years ago and he is still O.K., and he is over 75.
I have an accident insurance from the SCB bank. About 1,200B a year. I broke a toe, bloody flipflops, so phoned the bank about this. They said do not go to the AEK hospital, go to Paola. Asked why, they said cost to much for the same work, over double.
I was told, don't know wither it is true or not, In LOS It is the car that is insured and not the driver. If you hit someone and it is your fault they would pay that person out, to the sum stated. But if you were injured, and it was your fault the insurance would not pay your med. cost. I was told the ins. was not like fully comp. insurance in the U.K.. As i said i don't know wither this is true or not, so i took out a full accident ins. myself. The only trouble with this is it's for people between the ages of 15 to 70. Having just turned 70, had to get a different insurance out, which was more expensive. But worth it for piece of mind.
Cheers Doug.
