make sure the screen is turned off first.
no, do not use window cleaner! (ammonia)
a soft clean towel dampened with a little water will be best.

Yes, I certainly would not use Windowlene or any similar products. If it's just dust - a feather duster would suffice, though agreed the dust will tend to migrate back again due to static electricity. There are antistatic cloths around, often in the small side shops in the shopping malls. They would be good.

If there are any sticky or finger marks, I use a lens cleaning fluid bought from an optician (for cleaning plastic lenses) along with a soft cloth obtained from an optician for the same purpose.

I’ve experimented with numerous products over the years for glass and LCD screens.

For my Sony LCD TV (matt), Dell PC Monitor (matt) and Dell Netbook (shiny) screens, I now use a mild solution of Dettol (mixed with clean water) on soft clean paper towels and then wipe over again with moist soft clean paper towels to remove any residue of the Dettol – NB make sure that no moisture can seep into the edges of the screen or any electrical areas.

If you do try it, make sure you test it first on a small corner to check that it does not affect the surface of your screen.

It works for me, but that is no guarantee that it will work for anyone else.

cleaning a LCD tv screen

Postby douglas » March 29, 2011, 11:29 am

Hi,
For the past 15 years i've used a product by AF computer cleaning products. I got mne from Farnell in the U.K.It is called Screen-Clene (Safeclens)
DO NOT use anything in a pressurised container on a LCD. The one i use is in a pump action container not pressurised. Also use a lint-free cloth. I get these from safe-clean as well. One tin lasts me for over a year.
For a CRT T.V. or CRT monitor, a damp cloth with a drop of dish washing liquid is good enough
Their address in U.K. is,
Automation Facilities,
Wargrave,
Berkshire,
RG10 8AW,
England.
Tel. +44(0)118 940 4031.
+44(0)118 940 3084.
Hope this helps. Sorry i don't know their e-mail address. Have not time to hunt for it now.
Cheers Doug.
DO NOT use a cotton cloth, or water, or vineger, on a LCD. Alright for glass CRT's
