Colonoscopy

Postby KHONDAHM » February 5, 2012, 7:59 pm

Thanks for the link in the other thread, Jackspratt; and thanks for the report.

I am soooooooo cringing right now. Anyone know if/where I can get a "virtual colonoscopy"? Obama recently had it done and I think I may want to go that route, too. If available.

"VC takes place in the radiology department of a hospital or medical center. The examination takes about 10 minutes and does not require sedatives." Sure, they still have to go up there if they find polyps, but if none are there...

Nothing to worry about, I had mine done last summer. All I remember is the doc sitting down by my bed than 2 seconds later saying he was done and all good. Great drugs I guess, absolutely no pain or memory of the procedure.

I've had two colonoscopies, - one about 15 years ago in the UK, and one in Udon General Hospital, - the expert works from there, about 3 years ago. The whole thing can be very worrying, but a relief when you get a clear outcome.

Have a drink on me. :guiness: :D

Arjay you look too young for that sort of thing ? is that really your photo.

My experience of colonoscopy done last March in Bangkok was the same as jai yen yen's . You get what you pay for, or is it what you are pained for. X-ray has a higher chance of missing a polyp, plus a doctor will need to go in there to snip if they find something on the X-ray.

Go for the real thing. The prep isn't a lot of fun but with quality drugs, the procedure itself is no big deal and when you are done, you are done. First time, I do remember looking at the video monitor, knowing what it was and having the very groggy thought that this was kind of neat.

This article in the recent news may be appropriate to this thread.

Researchers publishing in the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology (CJPP) have found that a diet enhanced with vitamin and mineral supplementation can lower the risk of developing precancerous colon cancer lesions by up to 84%.

Does anyone know the name of the Gastro-enterologist at Udon hospital, or indeed any other gastro-enterologists at any other hospitals in the area?

The gastro specialist at Udon General is Dr Inchaiya. I am in a long queue waiting to see her at the moment.

From the N.Y. Times article:
“Any screening is better than none,” Dr. Winawer said. “The best test is the one that gets done, and that gets done well.”

Bumrungrad #1. IMO.

Colonoscopy

I saw Dr Olarn at AEK last sunday. There are evidently two GE Drs at Udon General hospital, - Dr Inchaiya and Dr Olarn.

Dr Olarn has a surgery at AEK on sundays (all day) and also on tuesday and friday evenings.

And yes, they can now do colonoscopies and gastroscopies/endoscopies at AEK, albeit at a much higher price than Udon General of course. I had the privilege of having one of the latter whilst there.
