Concrete/Pebble Designs for Driveways, Entry Ect..

Hi,

Can anyone tell me of a company who does concrete 'pebble-style mosiac designs for driveways, sidewalks and entries? I was told to look on UdonMap and have checked everywhere, from Business Services to all the topics on this forum to no avail.

I did find Udon Classic Paving and will contact them (good map/instructions you provided) but they look like they use colored concrete blocks - not what I want.

I friend of mine (back home now) had a shower floor with a dolphin mosiac design which was quite nice, plus it was non-slip. I'd like to do something with my house entry and sidewalks. I haven't laid any concrete yet.

I live between Nong Khai and Udon.

Mike,
Any of the companies that sell tiles will do "non slip" - not really the correct name 'less slip' would be nearer the mark

- but they tend to be the smaller tiles (I would call them 6" but I am sure they are metricated

). Unless you want the sort of stuff done by the two specialist companies listed it is really more a case of you finding a builder, a supplier & you designing it.

The pebble-style you described is called aggregated concrete and they use an acid to get the pebble type look, quite common around swimming pools as it is relatively non-slip. A good builder should be able to do that kind of work, see the thread on recommended builders.

Whew! You're a quick one, thanks!

I'm using Kwanjit at Wanghin for my countertops, floors and facia at this time. They haven't started any work for me as yet, other than selling me the material - they will install the countertops though. She's pretty good as far as I can see. I'll let you know how the installation work comes out.

I didn't know they did concrete mosiacs but will check with her. I'm not looking for tiles. I am looking for concrete that has small BB-like pebbles ingrained in the concrete that, when used with different colors, can be made into mosiac-like pictures: stars, diamonds, fish etc.....

I've taken down the new address and phone number for Udon Classic Paving and will visit them on my next trip to Udon, which is almost daily at this stage of construction. There must be others out there if UCP doesn't do this sort of thing.

You could vist the builders on the Ban San Sa Ran (Lake Garden City).
Now working on the final phase. (C)
Ask them, I sure they could do you a bespoke service, or know someone who can.
Each three bedroom bungalow has that concrete with the pebbles ingrained into it.
The car port and the veranda leading into the house main door.

mike , you can go into hansa sales office and ask them for the contact number of thier sub contractor that does this sort of driveway , also look around , as the same people have done about 85% of all the drives in hansa . they are very good . in the mean time you could get your builder to lay all the concrete you need , as this covering is only about 25 cm thick and gets laid onto a concrete finish . tell him what you propose to do so he sets the bottom gate rail higher than his finish , that way it will be flush when youve had it surfaced . a word of warning , however , if your drive faces north or is in a lot of shade , it will get black from algi and the finish you want is not easy to keep clean , even with a jet wash . the cost of this surfaced finish depending how fancy or not , should be around 400 to 500 per metre square , no more . i paid 360 two years ago . hope this helps .

Saints advice is very good.I live on Ban Hansa and the type of work your after is prominent all around and very professional also.I`ve only ever seen the same people/company doing this type of work.Have a drive round B H and decide.I think Ban Hansa Estate is now a sponsor on Udon Map for contact details.

Was thinking about an aggregate concrete driveway myself but have seen some with the algi stain. Not very attractive frankly. Is there not some kind of sealant that a person can apply to the surface to prevent this?

Yes. We had the sealant put on our aggregate driveway. We just had the contractor (installer) get the sealant and apply it. People familiar with this type of driveway installation can recommend the type of sealant and/or brand name. It seems to be working okay and it is now easier wash/clean the driveway than it was before we had the sealant spread on.

I Lived in Hawaii for a time, there, many folks have this beautiful resin/pebble coating on their concrete driveways. In Hawaii, the resin color held its bright beautiful appearance for a long time.

Here, they must use a cheaper grade resin, which wouldn't be a surprise.
"From what I've seen", the resin colors seem to dull in a short time and look ugly, relative to what I saw in Hawaii.

Might want to search the net, ask some questions of Farang companies who are true pros, before you invest locally.

What's good here, may only be half good in reality.
Same old story, buyer beware when dealing with locals.
When you simply ask them for the best, they may give you the best, "best junk", they have.
And remember, when they finish your job, plan on having a big mess to clean up, it never fails.

Guess it boils down to doing your research, then use the best local company you can find and hope for the best...

Got my driveway and most of the garden done like this, hate working in garden.
It is pebbles they use, different coulors and not aggregate concrete as another poster said. To get the design they use plastic strips. And put concrete on the base. Very good and well worth it, had it done over three years ago and still A1. To clean all you need is a high pressure hose. Never ever had trouble with algi stain. Does not happen on this type, maybe the coloured concrete type will stain, as my garden walls are prone to do. I don't think you can go wrong with this type, please get the right type and not the coloured concrete, which is cheaper and IMHO not worth the money as you will always have problems.

I've heard the Thais call that type of finish "Hin-Toke". My houses front porch, stairs and lower portions of the foundation are faced with "Hin Toke". As mentioned after it is applied a resin type finish seals it.. Our house is now 2 1/2 years old and none of the finished areas have degraded/molded/algaed at all. I'm considering doing the rest of the walk up to the house and perhaps our rather lengthy driveway.. As mentioned it does have a handsome appearance and certainly prevents any slippage in rainy weather due to its pebbled texture.

Usually the ones I've seen have river rock as an aggregate and just before the mix goes hard, they simply wash off with water until they get the desired effect.(depth of rock) After a week or so, a clear finish is applied in a couple of caots to give it sheen and make it impervious to dirt. No acid.
