Connecting to the Internet in Udon

Postby panick » July 1, 2007, 6:13 am

What is a good way to get a Broadband connection to a phone line in Udon?

The plot so far  ....Have Wife, house, car and phone line  ...but the computer isn't going in till next week ...So...the question being...What is the cheapest (Keeneow farang) way of obtaining a Broadband connection so we can use the computer online?...Her sister/best friend uses a pre-payment card such as "cat-telecom" to obtain a cheap rate/min when online :? but are there any packages like we have in Europe which can provide a cheap rate /month for a certain usage and download limit?...... 8)

We use TOT broadband, went to the office the TW filled in a form 2 days later the engineer turned up to make sure all was working OK

I'd installed a b/band router already and was waiting for the user name and password. The engineer wold have installed for free if I hadn't already done so.

We opted for the 512/256 service @ 700 bht per month and, as I understand it, unlimited usage. Billed on the same bill as the telephone calls.
256/128 is 500 bht p/m, sorry not sure of pricing for speeds above 512, but I think the max is 2Mbt.

Hope this helps

If your demands are not great, you would do well to look at some of the prepaid dial-up internet services.

I have used Loxinfo for many years, and it is my backup for the days that my TOT ADSL connection is down.

You can see the various packages at the computer shops at Charoensri Center (2nd or 3rd floor).

Just another option if broadband isn't available is by GPS. My mobile phone is Bluetooth enabled so acts as the modem. A 100-hour package from AIS is 374.00 Bht. The reported speed is 115.2kbps. Slow of course by broadband standards but I was happy enough with it for general browsing and checking emails. Also great portability so you can access it in a hotel if they do not have a business centre or if you are having a kee neow day and don't want to pay 100 Baht per hour... :D

TT&T (private company) lease the copperline from TOT (state company). So i think when TOT have a connection problem TT&T will have most of the time too. I many cases the lines between mainoffice and user locations are too long (mechanic told me 4km is the maximum for real good speeds). Now TT&T wants to build more exchange points so customers will have a good and fast speed but the problem is TOT is the line owner and ask money for all this.
So many times it is a battle between 2 companies and we internet users only can wait the results of their negotiations.
Maybe you would say now to switch from TT&T to TOT for not having this problem but then you casn forget fast service too.
Many copper lines from TOT are old and TT&T changed already many parts of it. (ofcourse with payments)
The best sollution for fast internet (up to 4MBps) is through IPSTAR. Internet through satellite. Unfortunately it is at this moment still very expensive, 8000 bath by month, and you will need a special dish and receiver.
I sent many emails for TT&T since the connection problems started end august here and finally the manager informed me that they will make a new exchange point near my village end this year wich will give high speeds of 2-3 Mbps.
Don't worry , feel happy finally.
