COOKING CLUB

Postby efxg57 » January 23, 2008, 11:06 am

Okay Boyz, hows this for an idea. A Cooking Club ? I was just speaking with Jingjai and the topic came up. Good Western Food, how about we do it on a regular basis. I am looking for suggestions pertaining to this. Format could be like this: Once every two weeks ( or every month ) a different person will host a dinner at their house, they will provide all the food ( not booze :( ), say soup , appy, and main course. dessert is optional. Thai wifes or girlfriends can cook for the Thai's. So boyz, lets put up or shut up. The Challenge has been laid down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you all think ??????????

slight logistic problem with the cooking aspect

Postby ISSAN_NISSAN » January 23, 2008, 7:35 pm

Great idea but a couple of small logistics problems with me.

Lets say 10 guys show up with their T/W or whatever.

20 folks...opps 22 including me and mine.

1. My dining room table only seats 6 but the sofa can handle 4 or 5 more. That leaves about 11 who could sit outside or stand in the kitchen.

2. I have only 2 skillets and 2 sauce pans, 4 spoons, 4 knifes and 4 forks, but tons of plastic cups.

3. But on the plus side, I have parking for 30 cars and 20 motorcycles.

Now if we were to have 10 large pizzas delivered and a couple of kegs of brew....well now, that would work!

I'm interested!
Maybe we could call it "UCS" (Udon Culinary Society), but maybe that sounds to "hi-so" ;) .
One of my suggestion would be to have the dinners once a month. Every month a different member "hosts" the dinner. The host would provide the main course. The other members would bring items to compliment the main course. Menus planned beforehand. Something like a gourmet "pot luck" :D .
Probably, the best thing do, would be to get everyone interested, together for a "meeting of the minds".

I'm interested, too.

Many years ago when I was a fledgling vegetarian I joined a similar group to learn about that kind of food. Met great people and learned a bit about cooking.

I'm now a carnivore again. I like the potluck approach best as it keeps the workload managable, and it keeps bringing in new dishes.

Udon Culinary Society - almost enough to make me want to wear long pants.

Creative vegetarian food, that sounds good, been quite a few years since I've had any.

Yes, let's keep the dress code "come as you are" .

I enjoy cooking and sharing my "creations" with friends, however I don't know if I have it in me to prepare a 4 or 5 course meal for everyone. I also like the idea of a potluck approach.

Let's plan a meeting to discuss what and how we want to do this thing.
I'm available during lunch hours any day.
Except for Monday, Feb. 4, I'll be waking up at 5am, to watch the Superbowl. :D
Probably by lunchtime, I'll be ready for my nap  .
