Hi All

Yes I'm back on the road again despite a few more aches and pains. I'm currently in Aranyaprathet after an unfortunate encounter with a 15 y/o on a motorcycle. I'm ok but the rear wheel of the bike is gone. The bike shop told the kids parents it would cost 1,000B for a pair of new wheels (only sold in pairs). Parents sell stuff in one of the local markets so don't have much money. I agreed to split the cost with the father & mother after venting my anger with them, and their son. Bike all better now so I will be off again tomorrow. Stay tuned as I make my way to Pakse Laos assuming the sun doesn't completely destroy me.

When I started reading Mike's blog, I thought he was taking it way too serious, I'd just rode back from Koh Chang in 8hrs, and I didn't plan a thing, then I saw the bike, wot no motor?? Good luck with that one mate!! I struggle to do 25kms in this heat, and that's without luggage.

When I planned to buy a bike and do some exercising to improve my condition I couldn't have imagined that a guy named Mike inspired me so much that I spend a couple of hours a day on/with my mountain bike. He taught me about the bike and got me the "feeling" with the bike. When I return from my daily ride I enjoy cleaning and lubricating the bike as I know this bike is my pal and has to be in good condition.
I consider coming to Udon on a Sunday morning to join Udon riders, I even might do a short overnight tour next year with Mike and others...

What Mike does is amazing, the distance, the difficulties, the loneliness, and he's not a 25 year old!

He reminds me of my teacher for classic Latin, he said achieving something is 25% inspiration and 75% transpiration!

Up you go Mike, wind in the back, one eye on the map (he prefers maps above GPS) one eye on the road.

Good luck mate!

Joe

Thanks to all for the interest and good wishes. Joe thanks for all the nice words. I really enjoyed helping you. Keep up the interest and you'll be out there riding with the rest of us in no time at all. Parrot good luck and enjoy the holiday.

Met a nice french guy on the road and have traveled with him for the past couple of days. We'll part company next week as he continues on to Cambodia as I head to Vietnam.

Note to all interested in this crazy sport. It's not necessary to have the slickest bike in town to be a good rider. My french riding buddy is riding a 40 year old french bike that he had reconditioned bringing it up to modern day standards. It even has the original electrical generator in place although not in use.
