Cricket 3rd test - Edgebaston

Postby wazza » July 22, 2009, 1:34 pm

Well injury clouds for the English team already.

http://au.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/news ... -sweats-kp

They will need Freddie on fire and KP whilst scoring huge runs, has potential at any time, .

Both key players,

for the Aussies, a fired up Brett Lee will be a good return .

Prelimenary bets sugest Aussies 55/45 . wounded bull syndrome , Pommie injuries and Brett Lee wants to prove a point.

This is a good question BM, it depends on who wins the toss, Last match England were the better tossers and they batted first and won.

Lets assume they are the better tossers again next match and they bat again first, however this doesnt automatically mean they win the match.

Its quite complicated and you need to sit and watch this enthralling game for up to 5 days before , one can claim a win.

Flintoff passed fit for Edgbaston

England captain Andrew Strauss expects all-rounder Andrew Flintoff to play a full part in the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston, which starts on Thursday.

The Lancastrian has undergone intensive treatment on an ongoing knee problem, but Strauss said: "Barring any dramatic stuff overnight, he'll be fit."

Ian Bell in for England as a replacement for Kevin Pietersen who has had achilles surgery and been ruled out for the rest of the series.
Brett Lee,I think,back fot the Aussies ??
A big bonus for England,so far,has been the form of Aussie all rounder,Mitchell Johnson.Against South Africa he looked a world beater with both bat and ball but in this series he has really struggled with his bowling.....long may it continue ! :D

Apparently Mitchell's a bit of a sensitive soul.

Back in Oz his mother has been having a dig at his fiancee, (good looking Sheila), accusing her of being a gold digger.
Mitchell hasn't spoken to his Mum for months, which is affecting his form.

I am sure I heard a couple of the Aussie commentators say that they were surprised about how he swung the ball in SA as he had shown little propensity to do so in Aussieland.
Has certainly looked lost bowling here, although I think the first two tests were pretty much in favour of the batsmen for most of the time... The bowlers who got the results were certainly the ones that put the effort in..

Yes, great view of the bonnet but it's just not krikit.

Meanwhile, first day at Edgbaston and it's the Australians batting with 126-1.

And the Ingrish posters on the site have gone a wee bit mute.

Have they lost interest?

Sorry Fawn.
No checked at about 9 last night, on the BBC and all indications were that there would be no play because of the weather.
Uum only 1 wicket down, certainly not good, but only 126 on the board after 1 day, whereas (given fair weather)350 ish has to be the target.
Certainly Australia will be the better pleased.

I also fink the rain that was needed a week earlier came at the rong time.

1/126, and 4 more days, and a sticky wicket, ummmmmmm

wet outfield , slows the run rate down, Oz at the end of day 2, ummm 6 / 325

Weather only looks good for 2 of the remaining days as well. Today should play but Saturday looks doubtful...

At about 7.30pm they were screening a re-run of the first test and it looked unlikely there would be any play. The San Miguels took their toll and I had to retire early to the pavilion upstairs.
See the Aussies have dropped Hughes and Haddin fractured a finger in the warm up.
England preferred Onions to Harmison which must have been a marginal decision.

Just started raining again in Udon. That will be 3 days of Manchester type weather over here now !

Hope Johnson can get out of the wicket what Anderson has just done.

Put England right in the box seat,
