England squad for the ashes series...

England squad: Andrew Strauss (captain), Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Matt Prior, Andrew Flintoff, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Jimmy Anderson, Monty Panesar, Ian Bell, Graham Onions.

Harmison will feel disappointed in being left out, especially after his display against Australia playing for "England Lions".
Panesar has a lot to prove to keep his place. He just has not performed as a spinner for England for quite a while. His fielding & batting also leave a fair bit to be desired & Adil Rashid is waiting in the wings. Cardiff is expected to take spin so he will need to come up with something.

As Galee mentioned Lee will certainly miss the first Test. If the pitch is a bit benign his experience will undoubtedly be missed by Australia..

AH well DeNuit when I was a lad every village green would have a cricket pitch on it. Most of us kids would end up playing on it (whenever the rain permitted) during the long summer holidays. Learn any game as a youngster & the rules just come naturally & easily - I guess I would not stand a chance with the finer points of boules with you... :D :D

Not a great start for England, but that's normal.

Lunch, Day 1
England 97 - 3 off 27 overs.

Australia will certainly be the happier. Have not exactly bowled out of their skins, but have still managed to take 3. England batsmen should be disgusted with themselves, wicket and ball not exactly playing up, should have just got through the first session with the minimum of fuss.

Tea day 1

England 194 - 3

Much better session for England. Nearly 100 runs (Pietersen & Collingwood both now past 50) & no losses.
Bit of a strange bowling session by Australia. Have only 1 defensive spinner in the side & spend second session Day 1 bowling spinners from both ends???? Pretty easy for the batsmen, ticking over, never really under pressure...
