CT scan in Aek Udon

Postby Peterplay » January 26, 2012, 10:00 am

I just had a CT scan from the abdomen in Aek Udon.

The price was 17000 baht which to me seems pretty ludicrous. I had no option than do it anyway.

Anybody had a CT scan in Aek as well ? For a high price as well ?

Other hospital prices ?

I make a CT scaan i the gowerment hospital 1 year ago and the cost was 3800 bath....the specialist in the gowerment hospital work as an consultant for AEK at that time...so wy pay more if dont need. AEK and the other private hospititals only steel money :-$
These days life seems pretty good and I eagerly look forward to the continuation!

Peterplay, I just had an annual exam at Panyavejinter Hospital for 4490 Baht which included complete blood work, EKG, bone density scan, chest x-ray and ultra-sound of the upper abdomen organs. A gall stone was discovered in my gallbladder. I'm just wondering why it was necessary for you to have a CT scan. Could a simple ultra-sound have accomplished the same thing, in which case the cost would have been less than 1000 baht?

CT scan in Aek Udon

This is what it would cost in the private health industry in the UK.
As people can wait & take the free alternative of the NHS I would think that they have to be fairly competitive, although, of course, the hourly rates for the hospital staff would be far, far greater in the UK than Thailand.

So about the 17,000 baht mark for an abdomen scan you have to think...

I know that there was much talk a few years back about the high cost of the scanners, but I now see that a new one costs in the 100,000 to 150,000 USD, so the 3 to 4 million baht mark...

@Kjell, yes I have the the feeling they steal your money, the total costs of a 1 night and some tests were 40000, so I guess I need to look at other possibilities.

@Semper, the wanted to make a ct scan because xray and echo weren’t conclusive, so they said. At that point I already felt suspicious, but what do you do if you’re in agony ?
The most degrading thing was that I was rolled out in my wheelchair to the ATM because upfront payment was needed…

@Bob, in my opinion it’s an foreign price. I asked what a scan of the head would cost and they mentioned 5000 baht. In Bumrungrad they charged 3500 for that… Makes you think indeed.

This reminds me of my sweet wife's purchasing habits. She finds something she likes...gets all excited and has them put it in a bag...and then tries to haggle with them for a discount. Once you've put yourself in that position and they know they've got you, then you've lost your bargaining position. Sorry that happened to you Peterplay, but your story, along with numerous other horror stories along the way, has convinced me that I won't be going to AEK unless it's a matter of life or death!

Had a head scan at AEK last year 7000 baht plus doctors fee
Went to the MRI centre this year and it cost me the same 7000 baht. MRI is far superior than CAT scan.
Sempers please don't ask me the reason  :?

CT scan in Aek Udon

Postby kjellsnell » January 26, 2012, 9:28 pm

Earlier (around 3 yeras ago) i make an MRI on me neck at the military hospital and the cost was 8500 bath..........so my friends i have been around and check out all the hospitals in Udon and Hua Hin as well and what have i found out?

THE BEST TREATMENT, THE BEST SPECIALIST IS IN THE GOWERMENT HOSPITAL...DONT EVEN THINK YOU HAVE BETTER TREATMENT ONLY CAUSE ITS A PRIVATE HOSPITAL...... THAT'S A NO NO....THE SPECIALISTS THEY USE IN THE PRIVATE HOSPITALS .......ALL OF THEM HAVE THEIR BASE AT THE GOWERMENT HOSPITAL AND THAT'S WHERE YOU HAVE THE BEST TREATMENT.........I WRITE THIS ONLY BECAUSE I LEARNED THE HARD WAY AND I DON'T LIKE MY FRIENDS ON THIS FORUM BEING SCAMED THE SAME WAY AS WAS WHEN I WAS A NEW AND VERY SICK EXPAT IN UDONTHANI.

AS I WRITE IN A ANOTHER TREAD....I JUST GOT OUT FROM ANOTHER GOWERMENT HOSPITAL IN CHA AM...FOR TO NIGHTS, XRAY, DOCTOR, NURSES AND MEDICINE, EXCELLENT PRIVATE ROOM I PAY......... BELIEVE IT ORE NOT....4040 BATH!...................WY PAY MORE FOR BAD TREATMENT... THAT'S THE ISSUE WHIT THE PRIVATE HOSPITALS IN UDONTHANI! I HAVE MANY STORY'S TO TELL ABOUT THE PRIVATE ONES .....MAYBE LATER ON!
These days life seems pretty good and I eagerly look forward to the continuation!
