Yesterday at 11:30 AM government officials were notified by parents that children were playing games in an internet shop before the prescribed time. Government officials were dispatched to the internet shop in a soi off of Udondutsadi Rd and found 8 children in sport uniforms, ages 11-12, playing internet games. Cultural Ministry officials were summoned to the shop to obtain evidence.
An official said that licensed internet shops that offer video games must abide by the following rules:
1) Children under the age of 15 can enter the premises to play games from 14:00-20:00 hours Monday-Friday and on public holidays or when school are closed.
2) Children ages 15 to 18 can use the facilities between 14:00-22:00 hours Monday-Friday and on public holidays or when schools are closed.
Businesses who violate these rules can have their licenses suspended for a period of up to 90 days.
