Thank you Val. I guess it is just the english language. I would not expect you to know what honor is. To bad.

Have fun.

Val, you were bit hard on banpaeng there. Upon re-reading the posts involved, I don't believe he said anything that was not in agreement with the preceeding posts including yours.

I think he was agreeing that true friends can be of any/all cultures, race or creeds. That true friendship has no boundaries or limitations in terms or culture, race or creed (or sex?) and is reflected in the fact that true friends have honour and trust between them. They will be there for you when you need them, tell you how it really is, when you need to be told. (Though Thais might be a bit reticent to do that one! )

I think however there maybe some slight differences in approach, because of cultural differences.

I don't get it, this was an interesting thread with something to learn from an individuals point of view and their experience in reference to thier view of life here. No one ask for anothers evaluation of those points of view and who was correct or not correct. Simply thier point of view.

Why make it into a pissing contest?

Sometimes the best approach to life is listen not talk, you might even learn something.

But again thats just me I haven't hit that point yet weher I'm so wise that I can't learn from others. For those that havereached that point in life I have to ask why listen at all seems like a tremendous waste of time to me

A point was made about Bamboo and Oaks, are we only to be bamboo with Thai's. Foriegners don't rate the same courtesy as given a Thai?

It hasn't only been the Thai's who have had a influence in my life here, I learned a lot from people from many nations that live here. In mind they certianly deserve the same respect I afford a Thai. But thats just me.

I agree with Ray,lets just let people have their say without fear of attack.banpaeng was just expessing his opinion. He's allowed to,its a forum.Really no need for Valentine to abuse him.

Back to the subject of the two cultures i see no one that voted to say they are compatible has put forward their reasons for thinking so.Husband and wife can exist in a harmonious combination, but i cannot see that in relation to the Thai extended family.

Thanks for the support guys. I think all has been moderated by the adminstrator. I say lets let it drop now.

AS to Coot. I have been able to go friendly with some of the extended family. You know it took a lot on both side. I had to get over every time someone said something they were not necessarly telling me so I would fix it. It was just conversation. I think they had to get over maybe I was not going to sit and Lord over them.

I don't know how else to say it but my brother in law made it in my books when I moved to Thailand. Part of my moving here is to recover from an automobile accident. As I am not working and on a partial retirement (not getting rich on this), he offered to use a lot of the wood he was saving for his sons house and build me a house, him and his son and a couple of other fellows from the village. My cost would have been very minor. Not sure what others call it but to me, it speaks books of words. Sounds like my family here is supportive of me as I am of them.

I find Thais most plesant, have not had any problems yet, they are more friendly than back home, I get plenty of respect form the locals I meet, as most are at school, I tell them Iam just palin kally english speaker.

Had a girl phone up 3 nights ago, and asked me to come to her class to speak to them, she teachers dress making sewing, dont know who gave her my number but said sure just give me the time and I will be there.

I usually dont tell them when I am leaving, as they always want to give me a gift, best to say see you tomorrow then phone up and tell them I gone home, most know me well now not to give me any thing other than their time

I just love udon, all the pretty girls I see I love udon thani that is where I want to be
