Dan Sai Pee Taa Koon Koon Festival

Postby bumper » April 22, 2009, 10:07 am

This is truly an amazing event, we went last year had to stay in Phu Ruea coulnd't get a room in Dan Sai, so if have interest I would strongly suggest trying to secure a room now. Don't wait if want to be in Dan Sai.

June 26th to the 28th my guess the big day will be the Saturday the 27th.

Does anyone have any contacts in Dan Sai?

Git, do the ghost masks look anything like these three masks in the song by Jintara Poonlarb?

I have been trying to figure out what these masks represent/symbolise.

You might have provided the answer since the festival seems to take place in Loei Province.

The name of the song is, 'Loei Boyfriend'.

I mean the masks worn by the men in the video, not the clothes worn by the women. 55555

Thanks Git, those are great photographs.

The masks worn by the males in the video are similar to the ones in your photograph.

I had never seen masks like these before, and when I read the tourist link that the festival was in Loei it led me to think that the masks in the video were like the ones you might have seen. They are !

I guess Jintara wanted to add a touch of reality to her song about Loei.

It sure seems like a colourful parade.

I would like to attend the Dan Sai Pee Taa Koon Koon Festival one day.

Thanks again.

Booked Phu Pha Nam Resort and Spa yesterday, second time we will have stayed there, up the road from Dan Sai itself. Haven't seen festival before, but sounds fun and I'd like to buy a mask or two! (Incidentally, picked up information leaflets from the TAT office near Nong Prajak).

The resort is rather special. The main building is constructed almost entirely in teak. Being up a mountain, the views are impressive. Almost a different climate last time we were there - damp, misty and cool at times, until you dropped down a bit. Have spa, swimming pool, even a large aviary, which a zoo would be proud of.

Certainly worth considering if you're taking in the festival, but there are several other places on the road to Loei itself.

There are actually hotel inside Dan Sai, but they fill up fast for this one. We stayed in Phue Rua last time. Going to try for a room inside town this time and just park the bike. But we will see.

Almost had a Madri Gra feel to it, definetly fun.

I didn't think too much available in Dan Sai itself. But if of any help to those thinking of going, I was looking at the Leelawadee Resort, which offered a variety of more basic accommodation (clay, wooden huts etc) but fitted out very well, it appeared. A lady, very good English, at the Loei TAT Office (042812812) suggested this place was no longer operating, not as a resort anyway. So you MIGHT be wasting time pursuing that one.

Let me know if you catch sight of Jintara and her dancers !

Please take a few photos of that and not just guys on motorcycles. 55555

I wonder if she will be appearing in the vicinity? Anyway, it is good timing that she released her newest cd at a time when the yellow and red shirts were demonstrating, and this festival was about to take place.

She has songs for all occasions. 55555

This is the closest hotel I could find

DanSai Resort Hotel

089-277-1251

Theres nothing fancy about this place but it he closest one to the festival, last time we stayed 35 Klms away, this is a popular event and that is why I went today and Looked for hotel rooms today if yuo want to go and want to stay in Dan Sai, I stongly recommend you book hotels now.

Fan rooms are 750, air con 1K per night.

The lady is going to want a deposit so you will probably have to do a bank transfer. But, you will need to work that out with her. She does not speak english so you need a Thai Speaker.
.

If you guys haven't been to this before it is one heck of a lot of fun, enough so that this the second time for me in as many years. Should be more fun this time we don't have to ride 35 Klms back to the room. Heck I might even have a beer and I don't even drink.

Remeber I said it was not a fancy hotel but it's clean and comfortable and close.
