Dance classes for nine year old

Postby Firfox » August 6, 2011, 8:20 pm

Hi all

I will be coming to live in Udon Thani with my family (wife and one daughter) on December 6th 2011. As stated in previous posts my wife will be opening an English Tuition Centre.

My wife will be running the tuition centre and employ me to teach there. In regard to my daughter she speaks fluent Thai but has been educated in the UK for the last 6 years. I am proposing to home school and have purchased all the relevant resources. However, a major part of education is social education that can only be developed by positive social interaction, therefore I am looking for social activities that she will be able to participate in on an evening or weekend. She speaks both English and Thai is nine years of age and loves dancing, drama and swimming. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Andy

Dance classes for nine year old

Postby papaguido » August 7, 2011, 10:25 am

Hi Andy,

My wife has contact info for a lady that provides instruction for jazz/ballet dance. She teaches out of her home on weekends and is located on the eastern ring-road opposite HomePro. At my kids school (Don Bosco), there's another lady that is a snack food vendor and teaches ball room dancing, but I don't have any details.

There's also an inline skating group, Udon X treme (look up on facebook or google), and they provide instruction. They meet at Nong Prajak lake in the evenings and put on events around town. The more advance skaters compete in national events. My 9yr boy participated with this group for a while and then kind of peaked out and lost interest.

During school summer break (approx Mar-May), the Physical Education college sponsors sports activities for kids, it's a month long program, usually through April. I posted information about this last year:

Hope that helps...

Dance classes for nine year old

Thanks for the information papaguido.

The skating may be of interest and I will definetly look into it. In relation to dancing she is into all the pop/disco/hip hop. Beam has all the Thai values but is obviously very Westernised due to been in the UK since she was three. We have done all the ballet/ballroom dancing here but like most youngsters she is glued to the TV and most often this includes cartoons and MTV that has influenced her dancing.

Where ever you turn in the UK there are dance classes specialising in street dance through to modern dance for 2 to 16 year olds. It is a very booming industry over here. However, there seems to be enough going off in Udon for her so once again thanks for the information.

Kind regards

Andy

My daughter is the same age and enjoys the dance classes at one of the maps sponsors, the Yamaha Music School where we enrolled her for the type of dance classes that your daughter has shown an interest in.

My daughter has been going for a little while and her interest is still there and she tells me that she likes it.

Just reminded me, another group practices hip hop (break dancing?) at UD center and perform at events at UD. I don't know who sponsors them. It's organized, but most of the performers are male.

If in-line roller skating sparks an interest, than purchase roller blades in the UK and bring them with you. What is available here (Udon) are okay for learning, but as the child progresses they'll eventually have to be replaced.

Here's a link that we ordered gear for my son and may help you in comparing prices.

good luck and holler need anything else.

Do you know what other dances classes are available, if any?

Dance classes for nine year old

They run a panoply of classes from traditional Thai through to Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop and so on depending on availability of instructor and interest from customer, generally they like to go for smallish classes hence their classrooms are moderate sized.

I went along with my wife and daughter to have good look and ask questions, and recommend you do as well not only to view their schedule and offerings but more will you or your child be happy there.
