I am sure most of you would have read the terrible news about what happened in the Texas army base with 13 soldiers dead and a further 30 others injured and all this by a Major in the US army who was a military psychiatrist .
In reading the reports I see that he was totally anti Afghanistan and argued frequently with other officers on this. He was also being investigated for possible links to an extremist organisation.
Why then was he being transerred to Afghanistan? Is this a question whereby the Army should be looking at their vetting proceedures not just at enlistment but keeping track of things as they go on.
It is further stated that he received a poor performance evaluation. so once again why did they even think of posting him overseas. Did they think they could get the problem out of their own hair.
Thank God I have never neede to see a psychiatrist and now will never consider to do so. They are obvious;y worse than their patients!!!!tinyterry

You really shouldn't judge all the pschiatrists by the actions of one. Same as people shouldn't judge the Udon farang community by the actions of a couple idiots.
The reason Major Hasan was being investigated was for a post he did on the internet that compaired suiside bombers to soldiers that threw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of his fellow soldiers, making them heros. The line of thought being, by killing some infedels when they blew themselves up, there would be less to kill Muslems thus, saving their lives. I am sure he is disappointed that he wasn't kill.Farang1

Why is this topic under the heading, general topics on Udon Thani? Should it not be under World News? It has nothing to do with Udonthani.

In answer to farang 1 I would say that my comments on psychiatrists was not too serious a comment however the rest of my post was.
It would appear that you have missed my main point as to why the US system did not pick up on him earlier with both his objections to his fellow officers and the fact that he was rated poor in his job.
A quote "
Retired Colonel Terry Lee, who worked with Hasan, claimed the major was anti-war and rowed with comrades who supported operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hasan, a 39-year-old from Virginia, was also due to be sent to Afghanistan, something family members said would have been his "worst nightmare"
In view of what has happened in the US to date would suppose that they would have or should have picked up on this man. Why for Gods sake consider sending him to Afghanistan to get more training!!!!
The US has many agencies like the UK that looks for these sort of tendancies. I will be interested to see if they have any comments on this matter.
The confirmed death toll now stands at 13 as one wounded has since died.
