Dentists in Udon

Merry Christmas to all. Just arrived back from Aust, with visa problems sorted out, double entry tourist visa from consul in Adelaide, no problem only took 2 days. Decided that the next thing to get fixed was a major refit of the upper Jaw, yesterday went to recommended dental clinic to get checked out and see what my options were, couple of teeth pulled, and a temporary plate while the mouth healed. Is what I found disturbing was a quote of 70,000 baht per insert, are these prices around the mark or is Ned Kelly alive and well in Thailand. I would appreciate any recommended dental clinics with reasonable fair pricing for dental work. Thanks .

If the Dental Clinic you're referring to is the one in AEK, then it is likely to be more expensive, being situated in an International hospital.

I have used a small lady dentist almost opposite the main bus station and found her fine on cost and quality, though my experience is somewhat limited. I would suggest shopping around. See what other suggestions follow on this thread.

I'm in need of a jaw tooth and have checked out the prices and they range from a low of "around" 50,000 (BKK) to 70,000 per implant (Pattaya, solid) so what you have been quoted is not far off the mark. Needless to say I can use the other side for that kind of money. That's a lot of beer!

Earlier in the month I wanted to go to the Nittaya Dental Clinic, by the bus station, 296/49 Saiutit Road (about 3 minutes walk from the flower stall end of Robinsons (watch the slippery pavement)) to check out their prices and have a clean and polish. Unfortunately went on a Wednesday, the only day they are closed

I found another Dentists Just across the road, opposite side to the bus station. The receptionists didn't speak much english, but the dentist did. She had a pricelist in a book and I made a note of some of the prices, but can't find it!! From memory though the price you mention seems at the top end of any of the treatments on the price list and for implants it may have been closer to 30,000?? The ultrasonic claen and polish (FAR better job than they do in the UK, proper sparkling!) was 400-600baht in the book, I ended up paying 600baht. The service, equipment and dentist were far better than any I have been to in England.

However, from my experience, the pricelist book was all in english and I suspect that they have another pricelist book in Thai which may contain different prices (at Don Muang the Salon there had 2 books and the prices were considerably different). Maybe you can get a Thai to enquire of the dentist the costs, for a friend, and then pay a visit after?

That's what happened to me, I thought I was going to the Nittaya clinic, which I believe Paul had recommnded, but instead ended up in the one across the road from the bus station. She was very good and prices very modest too!!

In defence of a different price list - which may or may not exist - bear in mind that falangs demand a higher quality of service than most Thais do. The quality of service is often directly related to the ability to pay for the service.

It may be very well that the old axiom of "you get what you pay for" could apply to a different price list.

The biggest call for us in regards to dentists in Thailand is not who is the cheapest, but who provides a quality service. And by quality I am focusing on 100% guarenteed hygiene.

My wife had a wisdom tooth pulled by a "cheap" dentist in Udon, in spite of me always warning her to go to Paolo hospital and paying the extra for top quality service. Outcome was she ended up with a badly infected jaw and was not able to do anything but suck rice soup and milk for 3 weeks before doctors were able to get the infection back under control. She lost a heap of weight and had health problems for some time which we could only put down to the dentist surgery.
With the amount of contractible diseases (from poorly or non sterilised tools in other peoples mouths) floating around Asia the cheapest is not the best option.

Nittaya is very good, had no problems with her root canal work and crown

Has anyone tried Dr Ratchanai near the clock tower?

So has anyone used the dentist at Paolo, have some work I think I may need done. The dentist I use normally has two female dentisone of which is excellent but only does minor work. The other is not got good with locals took three tries the last time and even then I felt a minor bit of pain. Not at all what I had in mind. Since I have been experiences toote aches I think we will be needing a local. Also a good xray done. I don't care for AEK Udon so I'm thinking about giving Paolo a try.
