Do you have Thai stepchildren?

My GF has a 20 month old son. At this age I think we should be able to bond well if I decide to make the commitment to marry his mother and be his stepfather. His real father hasn

My step daughter was 5 when I met TW and never knew her dad, he did a runner just after she was born. She is now 13.

We get on fine, she refers to me as her dad. Apart from the typical 13 yo antics and messy bed room (she has taken a leaf out of my own two daughters notebook) the only thing between us is still the language barrier, I'm a lousy teacher and the tuition at the so called best private school in Ban Dung is just as bad - Filipino English teachers

Anyway good luck, I agree at that age he should bond pretty well.

I have a 16 year old stepdaughter that has been with us since she was 8!She is a major part of my life, consider her my daughter and have the same affection for her as my own biological children.

She lived with her father and his family for a year prior to being with us!She was a very unhappy ,lonely and confused girl when she first lived with us.Plus she had never seen a falang before and that was scarey for her.

The father and his family would not give us her papers(registered at birth in the fathers name and on his family house papers)for her to live with us!So, we showed up at her school one day and just took her and later on we took steps to see that her mother had sole custody and reregistered her to Bangkok house papers!

I think you are lucky to have the opportunity to be the father of a child much younger if you are serious about fatherhood!

I didn't understand the class system, the rediculous educational system or the lack of economic opportunity available to ''darker skinned''Isaan Thais at that time or
I would have moved the family from Thailand in order to give them a proper education and economical opportunity in life!

Yes indeed that is a problem and we had to employ the services of a lawyer and go through a lengthy procedure both in the Courts and local Amphur Office so TW could get sole custody and have her daughters name changed. The OP should check the boys legal status and prepare if he wants to get him a passport.

What I would do now, is get the mother to get paperwork, and have her appointed sole guardian now, hopefully, they don

Glad all of you have found that happiness. I am still 2-3 months away from UT and LOS. I miss it. Been thinking about it since October. You are all very fortunate indeed. My hat is off to you. Hope to meet some of you at Night Market soon. Hope to find that same happiness soon.

My stepchildren are a boy 10 and a girl 16 and I met them along with there mum about 3 years ago and bought them to Australia, there father also didn't have anything much to do with them.
As far as they are concerned, I'm there father now and they call me dad and have settled into life in Australia very well and both want to live here after we return to Thailand.
I think I can say I have not had any problems at with them.

Current indications are that they both want to live in Oz for ever, but that might change.
The daughter wants to join the forces and maybe be a pilot, and the son isn't sure, but maybe a carpenter, and I haven't influenced them at all, but I think they can see that living here has a lot of opportunity.
As for me I can't wait to pack up here and live in Udun!

Stop, you love the thai education system. overpaid, overstaffed, small class size, up to date text book. all level are free education system with no additional fees/tea money. no need for additional tutoring, always there to help. gov't extends large tax base to education, constantly updating and upgrading.

got to be true, 97% literacy rate in all the stats worldwide.

I am the last person in here on giving advice for educating children. But I believe if the parents stay on top of the children and keep them away from the TV and computer games they will learn. I also encourage children to learn English.
