Thats a big price increase for the gym. I used to pay 6k a year, use the gym equipment for about 10 minutes a day then into the sauna/steam room and cooling off pool in the gents area for the rest of the day.

trubrit wrote: I don't get into town often enough to justify annual membership. Under the old owner I used to take the kids swimming whilst the wife was shopping next door, quite convenient really .

So you want to use the pool without paying membership or staying at the hotel as a guest ? Do you want the hotel to supply the towels ?

OT.............. \:D/

Certainly would have liked it to be free, but unfortunately they used to charge a daily rate, which although I did get a discount on being a VIP member was still rather high but I did get free towels .

I received a reply from Centara. The pool is for the use of in house guests only which I think is a good idea (for hotel residents) in all honesty, otherwise it could end up jam packed in the hot season like the other two hotel pools.

Fingers crossed Central Plaza will have something to entertain the kids when they eventually open, last time I was there I couldn't find the children's play area that is usually near the food court.

Went in for the midweek lunch today. 375bht minus 25% ++. For the two of us a total of 682bht. The food on offer was of excellent quality and plentiful. I really couldn't get round to trying everything but between the wife and I we managed to sample most dishes. Both agreed top notch. One word of warning though. The beef is typical Thai stuff which although it tasted good was of shoe leather toughness .This was made up for though by the delicious prawns and other sea food on offer. I wouldn't let it put you off, there were more than enough other dishes to get stuck into .If you still had room the patisserie and sweet table were out of this world, weight watchers look out .For those that used to go to the buffet before, when it was Chareonsri Grand, yes the price has increased but the variety of food on offer cannot be compared .I will certainly be paying a regular visit there . \:D/
They also have a retail bread and pastries shop at the entrance. Lots of continental breads . I tried the sesame bread rolls made from dark flour , will certainly be getting them again.

The Centara reopened Dec 16 after being closed 6 months for remodeling. The remodeled rooms are nice and modernized though not exactly luxurious. New carpets in the hallways and paint seems to have brightened up the place. The hardwood floor in my room is nice. In the bathroom there is a nice walk in shower, where I think before it was a shower/tub.

Internet is 99 baht per hour or 295 baht per day. Was hoping it would be free.

Restaurant service and food good, though I think the menu is unchanged from before. Tonight (Friday) they had a buffet spread that looked good (especially the Thai food and dessert buffet) though I opted for the menu.

Lobby and check-in area is more attractive and modernized.

Live band in the lobby has a Filipina singer with Thai musicians.

Overall a good place to stay in Udon. Like the location especially.

Since I was a regular,am thankful for the reports so far by TB,KB and Lee alongwith the photos from Lee on the previous page, will still keep it on my list for buffet. :D
Still unable to see, even by blowing up the picture, how long the discount will last and cannot see any post mentioning for how long into the New Year.
Hopefully, even with a price increase since last there,it will keep the riffraff away,Farang and Thai alike  :-" Code of dress applied or not, hopefully decency in people wearing trousers when varicose veins are prominent [-o<

Actually Pompui the poster doesn't say when the discount offer ends, neither do the staff seem to know. Guess its open ended till they feel its popular enough to discontinue it .There doesn't seem to be a minimum dress standard applied. A few customers in the beer shirts and football shorts variety were visible, maybe anyone with money is welcome at this stage as it was very quite when I was in there, between peak hours 12-2pm. Maybe 10 tables only were occupied, mostly by Thais .But its a very big seating area so you can keep well out of the way if it troubles you .

I agree with that. Most high-end hotels reserve the use of their swimming pools for guests of the hotel, and for members of their fitness clubs. IE: Marriott, Dusit, Royal Cliff, Sheraton, etc., etc.

I was a member of the Ban Chiang Fitness Club for a few years. The pool area became a nightmare during the hot season due to the fact they open the pool to the public. Kids everywhere, peeing in the pool, cluttering up the locker area, etc.

I was not offered an hourly rate and was charged 375฿ for the daily rate. This daily rate runs from the moment you first log on and terminates 24 hours later whether you remain logged on or not. I also had hoped it would be free and, bearing in mind that this place calls itself a convention centre, they should expect nearly everyone to need/want Internet access. Even BKK hotels provide cheaper access than this.
