Dodgy Monk near Robinson Complex

Postby udonuk1 » July 10, 2010, 11:06 pm

Yes i will now go to hell, but a dodgy looking monk (yes !) sidled up to my car in the car park opposite Robinsons today. He started to spin a yarn about needing 100 baht to travel to Bangkok. Did anyone else see him today ?
Despite the religious clothes, he looked decidely dodgy ! I shut the window on him. My TGF was more ambivalent, but i have heard all these tales before.
I guess that he will be get away with this for months maybe years, good scam in Thailand

Didn't Harry even offer to read your fortune?!?

It was my understanding that monks could travel free so long as it was not the time of year when they are supposed to stay at the wat.

Apparently, there were a number of 'fake' monks wandering around tourist havens in Bangkok a few years ago trying to collect alms in the form of money. They were from China, Tibet and maybe Vietnam.

Tell Harry and any other wandering mendicants that you are already an enlightened being (bodhisattva), and do not require any more merit (boon) to reach nirvana (nibbana). Been there, done that, and so on. To add effect, speak in the proper Queen's English so that they will know you are a superior being. 55555

Monks certainly pay their fare on the white bus. I have several times been asked by a monk to hand their money to the lady conductor.
