Dog Repellent

The house that we're living in at the moment had been left unoccupied for quite some time before we moved into it. The reason? The usual story (as recounted by the neighbours): chaidee falang meets TGF, marries her, lets her rent a house in Udon and sends big cash from abroad every month to provide for her and her kids. Every time, as soons his holidays were over and he had to return to Falangland, she used to rush back to her village to live with her Thai gik. She only came back to the house when Mr Goodheart's holidays were due again. One time Mr Falang wants to surprise his teerak, finds the house empty, goes to her village and finds out the true state of affairs. After that the poor girl was scared to return to the house.

But I digress. The point is that during one of these periods the soi dogs seemed to have unanimously decided that they would make the front gate of the house their Pee & Poo Paradise. So now I have to slamon around various heaps of dog turd everyday to make it to my front gate.

I've been thinking of spraying creolin or liquid ammonia before the gate to keep them at bay, but so far my hunt for these products in the local shops has only produced puzzled stares.

I then checked the Web to find a dog repellent to stop the dogs soiling the gate entrance, and came across a wide array of recommendations, ranging from mouthwash to human urine, but instead of experimenting I'd rather submit this problem to the Forum to hear if someone knows from personal experience what the best way is to go about this.

You may have seen this already and it is not from personal experience but maybe the vinegar idea would work.

Here is an odd suggestion: leave a few 1L clear plastic bottles full of water around the area. I can not explain why it worked for us at our driveway gate when we lived in a housing estate in the city.

Yes, that's one of the sites I also visited. I haven't been able to find liquid ammonia and if there isn't anybody who can speak from personal experience I'll experiment with vinegar.

It's a front gate that opens onto the soi.

My soi dogs seem to be made of tougher mettle. It doesn't scare them at all. This trick was the first thing my GF tried. She put plastic bottles filled with water covering the whole front of the house. She told me that their reflection in the bottle would scare them. It was quite comical when the next morning, while I was having my coffee and looking out of the front door, I saw one of these mongrels actually lifting it's leg to pee on one of the bottles!

Asiaphile, I found small bottles of ammonia at the big Tesco up north on the Ring Road. You find them in their pharmacy area. It worked miracles for me! I put it in a spray bottle and sprayed around the concrete. I haven't had a problem since, but it evaporates quickly and you may have to reapply from time to time.

This will also work for you... just spread it around a bit, the dogs and everything else will disappear. You shouldn't have to reapply it every few days.
