The meds last about 6-8 weeks and does an excellent job of keeping ticks off the dog. The cost depends on the weight of the dog. I pay 150bt for my 40K dog."

Could you please provide the location of the vet.....udonmap grid would be fine. Thanks

Grid W-14. On the ring road, about mid way between the Big C interestion and the Soi Nong Bua intersection. Just past the designated U-turn spot, the vet shop is on the left.

nkstan, acetone is a chemical too

I aint no sales agent for frontline, but just say that is does work.

http://frontline.us.merial.com/prd.asp

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fipronil

The chemical does keep the ticks off. Whether only by killing does that bite or also by repulsive action I don't know.
Pyrethroid agents do both, not sure about frontline.
I would rather drip a drop of Fipronil on Fido than subject him to some kind of injection.
The drop is absorbed into the body and keeps ticks at bay for some weeks until it needs replenishment.

I wonder if ticks in Thailand carries borreliosis (Lyme disease).
Apart from the nastiness of bloated ticks falling off Fido indoors, the fact the he carries ticks indoors who might then jump on you is another reason to treat for ticks - at least in areas with Lyme disease.

So is alcohol, but placing it on a tick with a Q-Tip is not like putting on her body to be adsorbed. Many people try to burn the ticks, sometimes causing harm to the animal, worse is trying to pull them out w/o their letting go,sometimes injecting the dog with their juices or causing tears to the skin, open sores with bleeding!
IMO,chemicals on collars and rubbed around their neck are very toxic to the dog.Makes me wonder what he would be like to be breathing and absorbing bug spray all the time as a human!

Dog Ticks power of the net

Postby pienmash » September 29, 2011, 7:14 am

The 21st century appears to have arrived in Udon which shows just how much the internet has changed lives .......... i recently started a new topic 'dog wanted ' (dont know where its gone now tho) and yesteday a Thai couple came in the shop saying they had a litter of poodle /shitzui cross puppies ready soon a member told them about my post and where my shop was .... we had a look n chose one that looked just like Mash , CUTE , ADORABLE etc his name was automatic SAUSAGE !!

Thanks to who ever passed on the msg to the Thai couple you have made a middle aged man very happy and ive got a new sausage coming .

Just a question , at what age are the puppies ok to leave their mum and stay with us ref the milk feeding stuff , and does this time differ between breeds.

Mash....... now i really can say ...do you want to see my puppy ?? to those little Lao teasers around the corner.!!

Ok simple answer normally nine weeks is the recommended age that puppies leave mum, however here it seems that time is thrown out with the garbage. So if your puppy is younger take care and possibly feed every 4 hours ( like mum ) and start on really soft easily digestible foods, like pedigree chum puppy food and biscuits in milk.
Relating to breed differences, Not known but when i was in the UK it was generally thought that 9 weeks across the board was ok as mum will almost cease to feed the puppies and will have made sure her children get enough food from bowls.

As for dog ticks if you do not have a garden not too many problems, but if you get an infestation, then a simple injection should suffice, but that will obviously be a possible problem after your new puppy has had the required jabs ( including rabies ) and is allowed to go outside for walks etc. Having had three litters here and currently six dogs, plse feel free to ask me anything.

No worries 8) , each to his own.
It is true you impregnate the dog with insecticide with fipronil or other compounds.
