Don't believe everything you read......

Postby LoveDaBlues » July 11, 2010, 9:16 am

NEW YORK — The son of legendary New York City mobster Mickey Spillane has died after tumbling out the window of his sixth-floor apartment.

Police say actor and playwright Robert Spillane fell from his midtown Manhattan apartment Saturday morning. No criminality was suspected in his death.

Spillane's uncle, James McManus, calls it a "terribly sad accident."

McManus says Spillane was leaning against a screen when it gave way and he fell through the open window. He says one of Spillane's arms was in a sling.

Police could not confirm any details.

The 45-year-old had roles on TV's "Rescue Me" and "Law & Order." He wrote an Off-Broadway play about a cross-dressing gangster.

His father was gunned down in 1977.

Seems Sir Issac will be consulted to see if it can happen.

So that newpaper believes Mickey Spillane was a gangster and was gunned down in 1977. I guess a reporter and editor will be printing a retraction soon. No link to the article was provided.

Frank Morrison Spillane (March 9, 1918 – July 17, 2006), better known as Mickey Spillane, was a U.S. author of crime novels, many featuring his signature detective character, Mike Hammer. More than 225 million copies of his books have sold internationally.[1] In 1980, Spillane was responsible for seven of the top 15 all-time best-selling fiction titles in the U.S.

Mickey Spillane (the writer) wrote some very intertaining stories and would appear occasionally on TV. I didn't know he had a son who was a playwright.

Yeah, who'd of guessed there were two Mickey Spillanes?

Michael Spillane, much better known as Mickey Spillane (July 13, 1924 – May 13, 1977), was an Irish-American mobster from Hell's Kitchen, New York City. Spillane, who was called the "last of the gentleman gangsters," was a marked contrast to the violent Westies gang members who succeeded him in Hell's Kitchen

legendary mobster??? perhaps if one lives in NYC.

Anyway, I detest spreading false info and since I'm too lazy to check things out properly I'll no longer post on UM.

Best of luck to everyone.

Hey Bluesman, if all of us who spread false information stopped posting this forum would die.

Don't take it seriously.

I saw another article about Spillane on Fox News Online, and them being a bastion of journalistic integrity, I knew they couldn't possibly be wrong, so I had to do more extensive research on Mickey Spillane.

I wonder how many people outside of NY ever heard of the mobster Spillane.
