Drink driving.

Postby trubrit » December 30, 2010, 11:48 am

The road blocks are up and operating tonight. The BIB are under instruction to throw anyone over the limit in the slammer and impound your vehicle, motorbike or pickup and issue a summons for you to appear before the court the next day, but as its a weekend holiday, unless the judges are specially working, you could find yourself inside for three days . The normal penalty is 3,000bht and until it is paid your vehicle stays in the compound .Sounds a lot of hassle to me, better not to drink AND drive . [-X

In the Uk we are told; No drinking and driving! In Thailand you have to be drunk to drive!

Don't go crazy lads.

Actually 20.000 bht and another 3000 bht to retrieve your Vehicle. Don't do it Lads, it's not worth it for a couple of hundred baht in Tuk tuk fees. Happy New Year Folks =D> =D>

As someone who has seen literally hundreds of peopkle killed and 000's maimed from Drink Driving , I fully endorse all the posters sentiments.

As they say in Oz, " Drink N Drive - Your a Bloody Idiot"

dont get a tuk tuk, get the Udon taxi service, they have seat belts.

This fact is even more important.
Thai Police make a decision on your breathe reading, you can of course opt for blood but you pay at the hospital, ( cannot get refund for that )

So those of you who toast the new year with a dram ( and that is all you have ) you could still be fined and /or incarcerated.

So be warned, I personally will not be drinking and have not drunk for 3 days to ensure I am clear and I will be out celebrating those who get stuck, and who know me can ring for a ride home at your expense ( ain't free folks ) But after 1230 you can WALK< that is the safest way, tired but safe, I wouldn't trust any Thai driver.

i rememeber coming back from loei one night and as we were coming backthrough the mountain after nongbualampu we came across this drunk driver and i mean drunk he was taking up both lanes swerving all over the place we sat behind this moron for ten minutes to scared to overtake him as he was just all over the place finally he pulled over on the grass,my brother inlaw told me to stop the car so he gets out and walks up to the car looks in and comes back and gets back in the car hes said the blokes asleep head on steering wheel.so from the time this bloke stops hes car and my brother inlaw gets out must have been 2 mins max he was sound asleep. unbelievable

For a farang I would entirely agree, but Thai's are born with the ability to sleep at the drop of a hat in any location or position ......... AND they don't need to be drunk to do it !!

Sorry Khun, Walking is not the SAFEST WAY, Thai Friend just this past week, drunk walking home(less than 1Km) hit/run kill, police suspect a drunk driver, one might be better OFF calling a friend for a lift.
