Drought

Postby BobHelm » February 2, 2011, 1:23 pm

After all the reports I ended up reading about the flooding problems and deaths in Thailand at the end of the wet season this report comes as rather a frustrating finale to it...
A total of 3,666 villages in 51 districts of seven provinces in the North, Northeast, Central and East have been declared drought disaster zones, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said on Wednesday.

The department’s director-general Wibul Sangaunpong said about 144,071 rai of farmland were expected to be damaged by the drought and 866,498 farmers would be affected.

The seven provinces are: Kamphaeng Phet, Phayao, Chiang Rai and Lamphun in the North; Udon Thani in the Northeast; Prachuap Khiri Khan in Central; and Chachoengsao in the East, the director-general said.

I know that some issues are not as simple to solve as they some times appear to be, but it also seems that until these problems are taken seriously by those in authority that they will endlessly repeat year after year after year....

It will all be forgotten again come APRIL Bob.

Last years "SERIOUS DROUGHT IN UDON THANI" resulted in hundreds of thousands of gallons of water being thrown all over the streets
