Postby grozza » March 26, 2011, 6:35 am

my wifes been talking to her friend who is going for australian citizenship, friend wants an australian passport,is it possible legally or is it a case of what they dont know wont hurt them, quite a few years ago whilst renewing her passport at the consulate in sydney my wife brought it up with the official there and he said that you (my wife)wont be able to own property and land,is this correct and if so what would happen to the house and land that she has if they found out.

A few years ago they changed the Law, and now Women who are Married to Falang's are allowed to own Land in Thailand. Where does your Wife's Friend Live ?? You must live permanently in Australia for Five years (if you leave for a Holiday the Clock stop's) and pass all the English requirements before you can take Citizenship.

thanks ardvark, yes wifes friend lives in australia just around the corner from us in sydney, that was the reason we never bothered about going for citizenship we didnt want any dramas about losing land or having to put land and house in another family members name, also why im inquiring is because next year we are going to america for a holiday and from my understanding it is easier to get a visa with a aussie passport as opposed to a thai passport.

My Wife owns House and Land, but she never changed her name to mine. I didn't want her to be persecuted in her own Country. Some have said they never had a problem, but others say different. Something to think about ??
