Thanks parrot. The nest is only about a meter and a half above ground surface. I thought I'd just take a bucket, build a small fire in it, toss in some green leaves or palm fronds to make more smoke and set it below the nest. If that works, fine. If not, the wife will have to bring in one of her nephews make the capture. I've actually spent a little time around bee hives, but they are a bit different critter than the dang wasps. Somewhat comfortable around bees but have no experience with pacifying wasps or collecting the larvae.

Today's snap, crackle, pop breakfast treat brought to you by Kellogg's of Thailand. Our gardener was splitting up some wood for a fresh batch of charcoal and found quite a few larvae inside the wood. He popped them out, put them into a small leaf, roasted for just a minute over a fire, then popped them in his mouth.
For the photo, I placed some of the cooked larvae back into the holes in the wood.......just for show. Our gardener ate them as soon as I finished the photo shoot.

OT might try that on Sunday. Splitting up some logs that is. The larvae look vile. Thai people base their eating habits on whether or not what they are eating will kill them. Taste, smell and looks of the food doesn't come into it. Especially Issan Thais, they'll put anything in their gob. On the whole thai food is very good so why do they eat such things ?

OT.............. \:D/

If I thought my gardener had nothing else to eat, I might agree. But to him, the larvae are delicious.
What I call a "jungle market" at k. 36, on the way to Nongbualamphu, has a wide selection of jungle stuff.....jungle rats, jungle birds, weird insects, cow placenta, and unusual veggies/herbs. It's not uncommon to see a car with Bangkok plates drive up, and the owner buy up a selection of these things. It's not my cup of tea, but the food obviously appeals to more than just the villagers.
