Education Visa

Postby ank888 » December 22, 2011, 10:18 am

Hi guys my first post. I've been traveling to SEA for a number of years and I'm at the stage in life I can afford to take it easy for a few years. I don't want to settle in Bangkok or Pattaya seen too many people lose the plot. I'm looking for a bit of a balance between partying and normal life as all I've done for the last fifteen years is work my ass off.

My question I'm a few years away from retirment at 50 so the visa is a problem. Does anyone know if there is a launage school in Udon like Walan lanuage school in Bangkok and Pattaya. I'm genuinely interested in attempting to learn Thai but don't want to be in the class room more than two days a week. Any information is greatly appreaciated.

Education Visa

AUA is probably the best place for you ank888.
Although there are plenty of places locally that will teach you Thai, for a price, I am pretty certain that AUA is the only place in town that will provide you with the necessary paperwork to get an education visa without issues.
Nick Dunning runs the school & is a member here (Nick@AUA), although not a prolific poster. If he does not pick up on this post in a couple of days then maybe drop him a quick Personal Message to jog him to your query. Or this, is I believe, their email..
udon@auathailand.org,

Education Visa

Hi ank888,
Udon University has a Diploma in Thai for Foreigners which is 1 year 3 hours/day in the morning Monday to Friday.
Following on from that is the Advanced Diploma in Thai for foreigners another 1 year program 3 hours/day.
These programs I am pretty sure you would get Education visa for.

Education Visa

Hi ank. yes, we can give you the right paperwork for an education/study visa, if you sign up for a Thai Language course at AUA. The next course starts in January (see other thread). The only thing is that you can only get 3 months at Vientiane. To get the 12 month study visa, you have to return to your own country and apply.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Gary,
I have been looking at doing the Udon Uni course, just trying to find the funds to do it.
It does look like a good course though, what does your friend think of it?
Iam not worried about it being hard course just would like to take my Thai to another level.

Education Visa

Postby footymaster » December 22, 2011, 9:28 pm

hi ank, i am the same as you just under fifty and live in udon, so now i stay here on a education visa. i study thai at aua,it is 4 days a week , 90 minutes per day, if you miss a day it no problem, the teacher is very good miss roong and makes it enjoyable to learn. i get ed visa from loas and renew it every 3 months by going there and staying 1 night. its easy. if you go to study at udon univercity it is 5 days a week ,16000 bhat fees you have to learn to speak, read and write thai which is rocket science. plus you have to have about 80% attandence, and many tests and exams. i have 2 friends who did the course last year.
i hope this helps regards the footymaster.

As AUA has stopped issueing visa letters, has anyone found an alternative school that does so, as I keep getting requests for them.

Regards
