The best shop in Udon for hair accessories in my opinion is 289. Its located across the road from the main bus station and clippers are displayed on the upper floor .

Thanks for the info, I'd never have found it. I usually cut my hair every other week so it will pay for itself, and it's less hassle.
Thanks again.

200 baht for a hair cut??? You must be getting more then a haircut. 40 baht is the standard price in any of the small shops located all over Udon. I believe the VIP air conditioned shop it's 60 baht.

Hi,
Yet to find a barber, in Udon, that charges 40B. for a haircut and that is over the last six years. would like to know where. And i go to the small shops. Maybe kids haircuts are cheaper, have to get my school uniform on. Then in 2005, in Udon, barbers started at 50B, went to 60B and this year, gone to 70B. Still cheap compared to back home. Have not got enough hair to warrent clippers. A barber back home told me, if you want to buy electric clippers, buy from a pet shop. They are excactly the same clippers but about five GBP's cheaper. Don't know why.
When I checked I found this was correct, take the labels of and they are the same beast. and with all the attachments. Four different sizes combs to fit on the cutting end and oil to put on the cutting blades. In a hair place 20GBP. in a pet shop 15GBP's. This was in the U.K. six years ago.
If the prices out here are as stated, and you get your hair cut every month, you will save the cost of them in a few months.
Go for it.
Cheers Doug.

Electric Hair Clippers

I bought my set of Wahl clippers (probably counterfeit) from one of the many stalls offering the same at the Chinese market along the riverfront in Nong Khai. I believe they were being sold as pet clippers, but it's the same set as for humans. I paid 150 Baht. Have her plug them in to see if they work. They might require a little of the oil on the blades (which is included in the pack) before they will vibrate from side to side; otherwise, they appear to be frozen in place.
I just taught my wife how to cut my hair, so now I save 80 Baht, including tip) every two weeks, and the wife does a much better job than any barber I've been to in Udon. Hey...with the devaluing USD a guy has to cut expenses somewhere. That's $141.00 per year savings on the haircut, $49.00 savings on gas (not to mention wear and tear on the car) and $23.00 on soup that I buy to eat lunch down the street everytime I get a haircut versus eating at home (I take my wife with me everywhere I go). And don't forget that for every trip that one makes out of the house, for whatever reason, you usually wind up on a spontaneous shopping spree that costs you far more than any of the above expenses. So, from now on it's haircuts at home for me!

Across the Ring Road from Big C (Carefour before) there is a small soi between the shop houses and the food stalls. Small barber shop on the left side of the soi. Got a haircut there last week 40 baht, try to give the guy a tip but he refused, I think he didn't know what a tip was. This is close to my home in Thana Estate. Also just down the road from the estate another barber just opened 40 baht. Hi and tight just the way semerfi would like.

There is a lady barber on the Nong Khai Road, next door to the Sang Kiew restaurant who charges 40 baht. She also does styling if you're so inclined, don't know what she charges for that.

I rang my son in law last night and out of curiosity asked him how much for a hair cut in England. An amazing 7 pounds, plus the barber expects a one pound tip. He did say however if your an OAP go on a Monday and you only pay 5 pounds .
Incredible to see on here that some are running all over town to get one for 90p. :-"

OT paid £8 in the UK for a haircut with clippers (all over No.4 as usual), it would be a tenner+ if they use the scissors, most places in the UK charge more. They do the same job as the 40baht haircut in Udon.
As for buying your own clippers and cutting your own hair - how do you trim the back and over the ears if you are not going for the spam look?
