Electrical concerns

Postby parrot » September 9, 2009, 5:02 pm

Be advised, if you have any kind of outdoor pump or otherwise exposed electrical wires are/near ground level, Thai mice/rats love to nibble on the electrical wires. We were piddling around with our irrigation pump today and found field mice had gnawed the insulation off of two wires. That sent shivers up my spine.......luckily, this time, not the electrical kind.

Good advice Parrot,,,,, it pays to place wires in a conduit. A recent 3 weeks of intermittant phone service and several visits by technicians with negative results finally resulted in a successful conclusion after I traced the trouble to frayed/nicked wires (not visible) from the telephone interface junction box into the house.

Off topic but I'll add this anyway,,,,, those of you that have gas grills or barbecues kept outside. Small animals and critters love to chew and gnaw on the rubber hose from the tank to the burners. Better to keep the hose stored separately unless you use it daily.
