Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has signed an order to lift the emergency decree in three northeastern provinces -- Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Nakhon Ratchasima, acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said on Friday.
The order is effective from Sept 30. The decree is no longer in force in those provinces.
The emergency decree now remains in place in four central provinces - Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani.
The prime minister invited Amara Pongsapich, chairwoman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to see him at Government House on Friday morning to ask about possible effects of the emergency decree on human rights.
Mrs Amara said the prime minister told her that the cabinet would consider next week whether to also lift the decree in the remaining four provinces.
