Mooen is still there on 120 with Stokes on 5..........Root out for 88 and Bairstow 49,so honours just about even on day 1.

Meanwhile in Brisbane, its Australia who have a slight advantage ;) at the end of the second day.
Australia 429 Pakistan 97-8
Yes Zid I had to keep blinking at 8 - 97. I was sure I was watching the Aussies bat.

Lunch

Eng 352-7 (Dawson 27, Rashid 8 )
Neither Stokes nor Buttler offered much this morning & Moeen finally fell for 146.
Newcomer Dawson has looked fair for his 27 while Rashid doesn't look like lasting long.

The series continues as before - England get a reasonable first score but it looks like it will still be 150 short of what the pitch deserves. India will no doubt get a first score that the pitch warrants & England will then be lucky to make them bat again.. :(

Tea - Eng 452-8
Very much better second session from England.
Rashid rode his luck a little but scored quickly too. His luck ran out when he had reached 60. That meant a very well needed partnership between him & Dawson of 108.
Dawson has been very steady & offered very little to the fielding side by way of chances. He is not out 55 & Broad has progressed swiftly to 17.
450 is a tidy score, unfortunately the wicket looks as dead as a Dodo, with the Indian bowlers getting very little out of it. Unless something remarkable happens to it overnight then even if England progress to 500 it is difficult to see that the Indian batting lineup won't pass that...

Eng 477 all out
& a quick end to England as Broad does the unforgivable & gets himself run out.. Ball follows swiftly & Dawson is marooned on 66.

It will be interesting to see if the England bowlers can do any better than the Indian ones. Going on the first 2 days so far it is a wicket where batman recklessness is far more liable to take wickets than bowler brilliance.

Close of play - India 60-0

India 417 runs behind (Rahul 30, Parthiv 28)
India navigated the 20 overs without any difficulties. England tried 6 bowlers during that time & none appeared to do anything that threatened the batsmen's composure..
Long day in the field tomorrow for the fielding side I think..

In Brisbane,Pakistan chasing 490 to beat Australia are now 105-2.

Lunch

Ind 173-1 (Rahul 89, Pujara 11, 304 runs behind)
Looks like being a long day for England bowlers. The ball doing little for anybody but Rashid & he is just too inconsistent to worry the batsman over much.
Moeen got the wicket of Patel for 71 but that looked as much tiredness on behalf of the wicket keeper/opener as anything...

Interval - Ind 256-3

2 test matches at the moment that could, with luck on their side go to a surprise result.
If the Indians bat all day tomorrow then they may bowl the English out on the last day?
Pakistan may bat long and perhaps save a draw against Australia.

In an exciting finish in Brisbane,Pakistan fell just short of the 490 to win set by Australia but still a superb effort by the tourists.
First Test, Brisbane (d/n, day five):
Australia 429 & 202-5 dec: Khawaja 74, Smith 63
Pakistan 142 & 450: Shafiq 137, Azhar 71, Younus 65, Starc 4-119
Australia won by 39 runs
Pakistan fell short of completing a world record run chase in the first Test against Australia in Brisbane.
The tourists, set a target of 490, began the final day on 382-8 and were on target for a famous victory until Asad Shafiq fell for 137 at 449-9.
Yasir Shah was run out by Steve Smith's direct hit from second slip four balls later as the home side won by 39 runs.
The record for the highest successful Test chase is West Indies' 418-7 to beat Australia in Antigua in 2003.
However, Pakistan's 450 all out equals the third highest score made in the fourth innings of any Test.

Play has just started in Chennai and India are currently 404-4.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Long, long day for England today..
Tea - Ind 582-5

Lead by 105
Nair not out 195, Ashwin not out 54..

I would like to see this Indian side bat in England, Australia, South Africa or New Zealand.
On these pitches that do absolutely nothing they don't just throw their wickets away though!!!

India declare on a massive 759 for 7 - 282 ahead.
I think they only declared as Jadeja was finally out for 51..
Nair (who had a Test average of under 10 before this) was unbeaten on 303

The bowling was pretty shoddy & whatever chances there were were few & missed - Nair went from 200 to 300 in just 75 balls...

England 12-0 at the close so,at least,we didn't lose a wicket.

"How low can we go" - lets hope we don't find out tomorrow ! [-o<

Oh dear, oh dear is all I can say.
Thank god that that embarrassment is over.
It is such a huge pity that the England players & staff learned zero from this tour.
Started well but only India improved after the first Test.

Too much trying to play 20/20 in a Test situation. There is little purpose in having a Test, One Day & 20/20 squad if they all play the same way.. :(

From 103-0 to 207 all out and to lose by an innings and 75 runs on a pitch that offered little help to the bowlers even on the 5th day is both shocking and embarrassing !
A dreadful series for England but the writing was on the wall for them in Bangladesh,I'm afraid.
