Through torrents they are more e-books to download that I will manage to read in my lifetime...
I currently have about 12,000 on my laptop as the do not exactly take up a huge amount of space either.
I have not seen a Kindle on sale in Udon, although, of course, Chinese copies of readers are available in Laos that are not especially expensive.
Because individual books are not large it does not take a speedy connection to download a single book. Most pieces of equipment for reading e-books are wi-fi for the cheaper versions & then wi-fi and 3G for the most expensive versions. If you do not have wi-fi where you normally use the equipment then I guess that it is necessary to go for the more expensive option, even though you will get 2G in Thailand at the moment.
Different pieces of equipment use different formats for e-books.
It is worthwhile anyone that is interested in using e-books to download a FREE program called Calibre. This enables you to quickly catalogue & search your e-book collection & also offers free conversion from any e-book format to any other e-book format. It is truly an exceptional piece of software but does require a bit of work by the user when setting up the original collection. Better to get it right at the very start & then adding new books as you get is an easy task.
Another thought are audio books. I listen to them on long journeys as I find that they make the time go very quickly.
A single book can last 8 or 9 hours, but their 'listenablity' very much depends on the readers voice. Radio plays are also freely available, although they tend to last not as long as full books...
