Euro 2012 qualifiers

Postby BobHelm » October 13, 2011, 6:48 pm

The draw for the play offs has just taken place...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15289738.stm

Republic of Ireland will play Estonia away on 11/12 November & then home on 15 November. Estonia had beaten Northern Ireland twice during their qualification campaign. After a shoddy refereeing decision against France cost the Republic a place from the World Cup competition they were grateful for an equally shoddy decision gave them a one man advantage against Armenia in their final qualification match. Maybe what goes round comes round in football after all.. :D
In the rest of the play offs...
Turkey will be up against Croatia.
The Czech Republic take on Montenegro.
Portugal face Bosnia Herzegovina.

Agree Tony, probably as good as they could hope for given the candidates.
Although Estonia will be no pushover, but playing away first should give Ireland the edge if they can get a decent result there...

Nigel Worthington to step down as N Ireland manager

No real surprise as they rather ended the qualification campaign with a whimper. Winning 2 out of 23 is never going to keep anyone in a job, although it is difficult to see how a new man would turn that around as, to be blunt, the quality of players is just not there at present.

Another reason the two teams should be integrated Bob just like the rugby! They have a few players that I wouldnt mind seeing playing for us.
I don’t have a problem with God. I have a problem with God’s customer support team.

Euro 2012 qualifiers

European Championship Qualifying
Bosnia-Hercegovina 0-0 Portugal
Czech Republic 2-0 Montenegro
Estonia 0-4 Rep of Ireland
Turkey 0-3 Croatia

Great result for the Republic, although Estonia had 2 men sent off during the match, which made it easier.
Robbie Keane came back from USA to score 2 in what must put them through to the competition proper...

European Championship Qualifying
Croatia 0-0 Turkey (agg 3-0)
Montenegro 0-1 Czech Republic (agg 0-3)
Portugal 6-2 Bosnia-Hercegovina (agg 6-2)
Rep of Ireland 1-1 Estonia (agg 5-1)

Not exactly an inspired match in Dublin, but the result from the first leg meant that it never needed to be. Congratulations on them qualifying, the competition as a social occasion will be much better because of it.

Portugal eventually blitzed Bosnia-Hercegovina into submission.
