Evaporated milk

Postby KB_Texas » December 1, 2011, 5:24 pm

Has anyone seen real evaporated milk anywhere? e.g. Eagle or Carnation or whatever, even the sweetened? I have looked at the usual places, Lotus, Big C, Tops, and all I can find is the non-dairy stuff that sort of looks like evaporated milk but is mostly palm oil.

I would have thought evaporated milk would have been a staple in a hot climate, but I guess not based on my search. If you know of somewhere that actually carries real evaporated milk, a heads up would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Evaporated milk

Carnation Evaporated milk is available just about everywhere. You can even get it in most Ma & Pa shops as many Thai's in the villages use it as baby milk (with hot water) when they can't afford B1000+ for the real baby milk mixes.
I've never had a problem finding it in Tesco's (on the coffee aisle), but perhaps there is a distribution problem at the moment with the floods.

I've used evaporated milk in a some recipies. Never had any problem finding it. As stattointhailand suggested, there could be a current flood related delivery problem.

Evaporated milk

Postby KB_Texas » December 1, 2011, 7:23 pm

Thanks guys...that must be it, because I have looked in 2 Lotuses, Big C and Tops, and nary a can to be found. I figured it had to be around, but perhaps the floods have slowed delivery. I will actually go to a few of the smaller stores and see if I can find any.

Thanks again,

Evaporated milk

Good and bad news.
Carnation back in Old Tesco store, but price has gone up from B21 (often B19 on special) to B27.

Evaporated milk

Yeah, I found it. Thanks for the heads up though.

However, I do not recall Carnation having oil in it in the States. What I looked at had either coconut oil or soybean oil in it (I can't recall which though) and I found that strange. Maybe because it was the sweetened condensed milk vs evaporated milk?
