wynnsiensheng wrote:Well Petemcc, in that case enjoy your time in Thailand while your "visit" lasts. I'm not sure there's much point in your learning the language though, nor enquiring about whether other expats do so, and if I may be just a little snippy....why are you wasting your and our time?

Am I wasting your time? I am so sorry, just ignore me, then I won't waste your time. What I do with my time is my problem. I asked a question and I now have the answer, so I have achieved something and gained a little knowledge, not a waste of my time at all.

Because I can. Does it sound racist, OK, whatever, it's racist. I Live in the most racially integrated city in the entire world, it has all but 3 of the world's nations living here.
Someone else made the statement about Thais, I just compared them to the Pakis.

And no I don't really think you are a racist. If you were, you would be with someone of your own race to possibly, if you procreate strengthen it, not dilute it.

Who said what?

petemcc wrote:Perhaps one of the reasons why I wouldn't live there is this lying thing. I think Thais and Pakis must have common ancestors because both races are habitual liars...........................

As for Darwin:

Darwin is a small yet cosmopolitan city. People from more than 50 nations make up its population of 110,000. It is on the Timor Sea (a branch of the Indian Ocean) in north-central Australia. Darwin is the tropical capital city of the Northern Territory.

That is a fair bit short of the approx 203 countries in the world.

That is bollocks. I was on a (you'll never guess) another cultural awareness course in March and the we were told all but 3, and that came from DIMIA.

Yes, correct. I am a Northern Irish Protestant by birth and breeding, but I married a Scottish Catholic. I have friends with various skin colours and sponsor a child in both Cambodia and Mexico. I have a young friend in China who I consider to be my daughter, and I have a Thai girlfriend, with a full-Thai child who I will take on. I work with people from all over the world. I am entitled to think what I think about anyone. Many years ago as a policeman, we had an enlightening cultural awareness session. People can be boxed into 4 categories. 1, a prejudiced discriminator. 2, a non-prejudiced discriminator. 3, a prejudiced non-discriminator, and 4, a non-prejudiced non discriminator. In the ideal world we would all be in box 4, ie have no prejudice, and not discriminate, but that is unlikely. Box 3 is were we were expected to be as a minimum, and it is where I am most of the time. I don't discriminate against people because of any prejudice I may have but I am still entitled to have my opinions.

I must admit I never went to Scunthorpe, however I met quite a few people FROM Scunthorpe, well I say FROM, because they no longer lived there, in fact I never met anyone from Scunthorpe who still lived there. Sunny Scunny, eh, but I guess if you're into sexual masochism it's seems to be THE place to be.
