I think that the 3rd. round is a bit early for mid-table Premiership sides to worry overmuch about winning the competition. I think that is why there are usually 'shocks' at this & the 4th. round.
By the time the 5th. round comes around & if you have a favourable draw then it can look a far better proposition, especially if you are in little danger of the dreaded drop... :D

True, but the likes of West Brom,Stoke,Bournemouth and Everton aren't going to be relegated and its unlikely any of them will qualify for Europe.......for them now the season is effectively over and, other than Bournemouth possibly, the fans wont be impressed.
You can understand the likes of Sunderland,Crystal Palace,Watford and Burnley not caring too much but none of them went out.
Today some potential banana skins for Chelsea,Liverpool,The Spuds and Middlesbrough but I think the big 3 should progress comfortably.Middlesbrough, however, may be on the receiving end of an upset !
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

I realised the Toffees were heading for a quick exit when Paul Merson tipped them to go all the way on Gillette Soccer Saturday, at least Pinochio Thomson had a smile on his dial!

It would seem that the Premiership fans are not too keen on the 3rd. round, let alone their managers.. :D Just a great deal of live football available to view & it is not exactly a cheap day out if you are a family..
A number of games featuring Premier League sides had low attendances as the top-tier clubs entered the competition.

A crowd of 6,608 watched Hull City versus Swansea at the KCOM Stadium, with 210 supporters making the trip from Wales.

At Norwich, who average 26,000 in the Championship, just over 12,000 watched the draw with Premier League side Southampton.

And Sunderland, usually watched by more than 40,000 fans at the Stadium of Light, drew a crowd of just 17,632 for the 0-0 draw against Burnley.

In the early game Cardiff went ahead very much against the run of play. Fulham looked very much the better footballing side though & that eventually told.
Klopp started with the youngest Pool lineup EVER (average age 21 years and 296 days). It rather backfired though & they now have to replay. They will probably win that fairly comfortably, but that is not the point!!
Chelsea, Middlesbrough & Spurs all show Pool how it should be done at home against lower league opposition & run out easy winners..

Great wins for the two Conference sides, particularily Lincoln who defeated Championship side Ipswich.
Mick McCarthys tenure as Ipswich manager must be under severe threat now as they are having a shocking season.
David Moyes can now concentrate on making Sunderland a decent Championship side for next season now......
