FA cup prediction comp

Postby stattointhailand » December 31, 2009, 2:58 pm

Anyone fancy trying to predict the FA cup results this week?

No prizes, just a chance to wear a smug grin for a day or so and be the "supertipster" for a couple of weeks.

Just predict the score of the following matches, points awarded as follows ......

Correct result (ie predict 2 - 1 home win actual score 3 - 0 home win) 3 pts
Correct goals home team 1pt
Correct goals away team 1pt
Correct "spread" (ie: away win by 2 goals) 1pt
Correct result + or - 1 goal 1pt
Bonus for being cleaver a*se and predicting perfect score with 5 or more goals 1pt

The above points scoreing has been developed over 4 seasons, and found to give the best possible chance to everyone.

Just feel that many teams, having reached round 3, will be more concerned about not losing than winning.

I got well and truly caught out by so many fielding "fringe" players. I expected some of the "big boys" to give a run out to their squad guys if they were playing lower ranked teams, but I didn't expect the likes of Newcastle to play what was virtually their RESERVES away to a team in the same league. Just goes to show that the appeal of the Cup is fast going the same way as the appeal of the League Cup.
I can only assume the likes of Colchester(fighting for automatic promotion back to the Championship), and Newcastle (not wanting to pick up injuries that might hinder their fight for promotion), now consider the FA Cup as an unwelcome distraction rather than a "chance of glory".
Just shows how the game is now "ruled by money", and the "magic" has now gone.
Years ago a "giant killing" was a "Giant Killing", not a win against similar quality players who you had played a pre-season friendly against as a Manchester Utd X1 or Arsenal X1 whilst the "Superstars" were still sunning themselves on some beach half way round the world.
