I like Thai food but about 50% of the time. having the time and inclination I have taught myself to cook & bake my own bread and flat breads.
Also make my own smoked ham, smoked bacon and even a passable prosciutto.
Make my own sausages mainly spicy varieties, Italian and spicy Chirizo, & Portuguese types.

Personally despite being brought up on boring food,(I had never tasted Garlic until I was 20 :( ) now I cannot stand bland food, so eating out at the farang establishments with their selection of stodgy Brit & German tucker doesn't do it for me.
When you make food yourself, surprisingly it quite often turns out better than the purchased stuff, of course Cheese and beer while I would love to have a go at that, its better purchased.
I enjoy cooking as much as my 'ol Lady detests it, so it works out fine for both, the kids in the main prefer farang food, Marmite sandwiches being their favorite.

The guy who set up Nongs made a suggestion a while back that we home cooking aficionados should get together occasionally to display individual skills, great idea I thought but it was never followed thru.

So how's it going, well I hope - I remember the first time my wife came to the UK, and paying 50quid or so for a bit of "mai arroy" thai food - My wife soon settled in to the "arroy mak" english food... fresh water salmon, Aberdeen steak, Ham on the bone, new zealand lamb chops, fish and chips, donner kebab with everything , chicken tikka massala, and of course the sunday roast dinner.... all proper english food......all guzzled down with a few pints of fosters.........lubberly.................... \:D/

I'd first saute a small, minced onion in that butter and add a tablespoon of yellow mustard. Or if bacon was handy, saute two strips of bacon cut into inch sections and substitute the bacon grease for the butter. A tablespoon of molasses is another option for a different taste.
