I've been thinking about getting a big bike for touring

crossed my mind also, but i would end up dead also. enjoy a little speed on the open road, and love winding roads and pushing the limits at times, if safe, but nothing is safe here on the roads. i spook Ree put putting around town, no way could she ride on the back on the road for any extended time. so canned the idea.

not know who the farang was, or even if a farang, possibly his fault, since rear ending first car. unless that one backed out on the highway without looking. but i'll never stop again, if i don't have to. as i was deemed at fault for being a farang, with police overseeing incident, where the other admitted to being wrong, illegal, but i still had to pay. F' that, again, i'll never stop again. why take the risk of being wrong, when you know you are in the right. certainly not endorsing this as the right thing to do, but now i understand why nobody stops, even if in the right and insured.

Following on to your story , so hopefully not off topic .A few years back in Kanchanaburi I came across an accident involving an old man and a motorbike. The old guy was lying unconscious in the main road in danger of being hit by other vehicles so I parked my car to block the lane. Eventually the police arrived, naturally thought I was involved
. Fortunately I had a Thai friend with me who explained the situation .The officer then proceeded to mark the road with chalk completely ignoring the victim. No ambulance seemed to be forthcoming so I asked if I could take him to hospital, permission was given after the chalk process was finished. I know he shouldn't have been moved but the alternative was to leave him lying there .On arrival at the Govt hospital the nursing staff took the old boy off . I was then asked by reception, was I involved. When I answered no the receptionist began filling in a form . Naturally I didn't know the victims name or anything about him , which they weren't happy about .When the form was completed as best as it could . I was asked to sign it . I questioned why and was told "for the bill" Naturally I said its not my problem and refused to sign .I was then told no treatment would be given until someone accepted responsibility for the bill .Well what could I do ? Let him die? I signed . Unfortunately for him he died within a couple of hours so the bill wasn't huge. This does illustrate the dilemma La posted about though . :-k

Ing_udon,
Where did you get this information (and the story you posted about the ATM scam)? Both are written like a news report. Whats the source?

Now, wouldn't that be something.......one of the vocational students joined the forum on 5 Nov to practice his/her reporting skills? Maybe it's the real McCoy, maybe it's the National Enquirer

is a shame that this person died, judging, by the initial story it would seem as if the farang was at fault, as to why is purely conjecture. However having siad that I have seen many farangs riding their bikes about 50% are not wearing helmets, same percentage not treating riding bikes seriously and the smae percentage again going through red lights etc, it is no wonder accidents happen, it seems to me that either riders bring their commonsense with them or at the Airport they leave their intelligence in the left luggage dept.
Bikes kill in Europe and the USA but at least the rider has a fighting chance, here you have very little.
Sympathy to the widow but I am not really surprised.
