Farang in fatal accident - Udon-Nong Wua So road

A doctor on duty at Nong Wua So hospital and the local police went to check on an accident at at Samkha village, kilometer 22, Udon-Nong Wua So Road last week. A motorbike (Phantom brand) black color hit the back of a car. The rider, Mr. Van Henkel, was pronounced dead at the scene. The police traced his address from his driving licence. It was Tambon Nongbua Muang, Nong Bua Lampo.

A witness said they saw Mr.Van Henkel ride the motorbike to Nong Bua Lampu, as he approached a dark spot he hit the back of a car hard. He then fell into the middle of the road and a passing car ran over him which killed him instantly. Both cars dissapeared after the accident.

The police are investigating the accident and have contacted Mr. Van Henkel's wife already.

HIt and run, Police wont even take paint samples off the deceased and look for the repair shops near by

Report completed already, embassy notified and back to checking helmets again.

Hit and runs happen everywhere.......but I'll agree.....t.i.t. I see a lot of falangs out on that road, don't look like expats, but rather visiting with their girlfriends. I'm way too chicken to get on a motorcycle here.....any rules you think might apply don't.

Depends how much influence the deceased's family have I imagine.

Most Hit n Run fatalities in developed countries are treated as a homicide and Police forsensic rescources are allocated accordingly.

Farang's bike hits the back of a car and the farang is thrown onto the roadway and hit by another car. Farang at fault, not the Thais or maybe another farang driving a car. Drag the body and bike off the road, call the police and keep going. First post by Ing Udon and makes me wonder......................

I've been thinking about getting a big bike for touring; but everytime I look it seems that someone has been killed on a bike............ :-k 8-[

Might just have to stay with the Air Blade for trips around town.
