Farang mattress or Flintstone sleeping

Postby Maligator » October 20, 2007, 5:10 am

Is it possible to find a decent "western" style bed mattress in Udon?
Don't want to have a "flintstone" type Thai mattress. I'm not a young one anymore and need a comfy one for the back.

You simply have to pay the price!I bought a King size for 15,000 baht at Tesc-Lotus ,which was the best they had at the time!I have seen some for 23,000 since then.I also bought a single size mattress for 11,000 for the daughter. They are both comfortable, but since I weigh 260-280lbs.,mine has broke down on my side of the bed after a couple of years! Will probably buy the more expensive one soon!

As usual,if you are looking for quality products, they will mostly be imported! With duty taxes, they are more expensive than in the West.

I am always surprised when I see tourists shopping at The Emporium,Robinsons etc etc.

hopefully that have what you want in stock, double check to make sure it is not a copy. name brand products in name brand store (robinson) doesn't insure you will receive the real thing. i paid 26K for a futon for tv/movie watching, in store, very nice, well made. received a copy, still comfy, but the futon part doesn't work any more. seemed like everytime i did something, another screw fell out. the material covering mattress is different tones, not supposed to be. this was supposed to be a sealy or serta. buyer beware. i should of took the display model, as suggested by the ex, as she was finally right for once.

I recently bought a second hand bed from a friend. The mattress was new and still wrapped in plastic. Spent one night on it and woke with aching back. The mattress was so hard I could have had a more comfortable night sleeping on the floor.
Next day went to Big C, not the car park, and bought an American made mattress guranteed for 10 years for 12K. Very comfortable.

Whatever you do, don't go to the shop that the Charoen Hotel uses
We nearly always stay there however because you can get connecting rooms, me and the wife in one, the kids in the other. After 2 weeks of sleeping on their mattresses you end up walking around like a ninety year old. Good excuse to get a massage though 8)

I've seen decent mattresses at Robinson's and I think also I saw some at Home Pro.
Expect to pay 20k plus.
