Finland battled back from a goal down to win the world ice hockey title for the first time since 1995 on Sunday, thrashing Nordic neighbours Sweden 6-1 at the Bratislava arena.
The rivals were playing against each other for the fourth time in a world championship final.

Finland, who won their only previous world gold in 1995, beating the Swedes on their home ice. \:D/

I pleased Finland have finally won something , if my memory serves me right the only thing the country won prior to the 1995 win was the Eurovision song contest in 1973 with Barnie Bee Barnie Bo , well done again on the recent triumph , they must also be favourites in the sheep carrying world championships held in Wales later this year.

Finland wins world ice hockey title

Finland has won lots of medals in the Olympics including long-distance running (Pavo Nurmi [sp]), cross-country skiing, ski-jumping, and so on. They also won some important battles vs. the Soviet Union in the Second World War.

But, as a Finn, now deceased told me, the winter's are long and cold and dreary, and lead to a high suicide rate. Thus, the following from him: 'How do you know it is springtime in Finland? You can see the Finns hanging from the trees.'

Good point LYM , the long cold winters in Finland also account for the fact that there is a massive alcoholism problem in the country , nowt to do except stay home and get bladdered every night watching reruns of the 1973 Euro vision song contest and saving up for a yearly rutting holiday to Thailand .... i have observed the holidaying Finn phernominon in Pattaya , they go mental totally bonkers , wasted for days on end this only ceasing for a fornication break and to watch a rerun of the 1973 Euro vision song victory . I like Finns , i have a pet koi carp he likes fins too .
