I too can confirm Roy's TW did indeed catch a 'monster'. Last Wednesday, was in fact, good all round. Myself and two mates had 4 fish all over 16kgs, the biggest again around the 21kg mark (not, I hasten to add, the same fish as Roy's TW caught).
I have some pics but not sure how to upload them here - perhaps someone can help?

We usually fish at a small pond further up that road. Pond belongs to nephew's father-in-law but poachers help keep the size and numbers of the fish down.

Polehawk,

I was with Roy, and have Photo's, but am having difficulty in posting, my blo@dy comp isa so sloooooooooow, I will try to get them posted today,

I can confirm, its a terrific fishing spot, and thet Roys wife played & landed the fish on her own

As promised, my brief report on fishing in Udon. First my thanks to those who offered helpI fished twice at Saman farm (directions can be obtained from the tackle shop in the night market; the turn off the ring road is the 2nd set of traffic lights after tesco, then about 1 mile and turn left up a small road, watch for signpost in blue with 'Saman Farm', turn left again about 200yards down at next sign). mainly striped catfish, some mekongs, plus pacu and maybe some giant gourami in the stock pond (i caught one). Most cats about 3 kilos. I also fished at a restaurant out past Nong Sim called the 'Orchid Hut'. Only small fish there but a pleasant spot. Not so easy to find but with clear directions it can be found ok.

I did not have time to try out several other places further out from town, but fishing is there for those who wish to look for it. Not with giant fish like internationally known Bungsamran, but reasonable every day fishing.

Met up with a couple of other anglers on these trips, so got a few useful tips about the fishing, and er, the nightlife.

I enjoyed my visit, research on this website here proved very useful, so never got really lost, and my preference of walking every where proved very useful in getting to know the layout of the town, although most locals seem to think that farang shouldn't walk anywhere, but insisted on offering lifts! Will I be back? Definitely.

If any of my some what limited experience is useful to anyone, I will help if i can.

Fat Freddy, these are the directions that were posted at the start of this thread.

Hope you find it OK,

The costs are, Days fishing, 80 bht

Tackle Hire, 70 bht

Don't know if it matters to any of you but it's "catch and release" at Saman Fish Farm. Went today to check it out and spent a good couple of hours. Wife caught a nice "little" 5 kg beauty and I had a humongous fish on my light tackle, probably in the 15 kg range. Thought I had the sucker worn out after about 10 minutes but he made a run the same time that I tried to horse him a bit and it was history. A lot of fun. Just as well because we forgot to bring the camera anyway. We'll be back. :D

Thanks a lot Ralph, make my humiliation world wide don't ya

As Bob said it was a good day and I have to feel sorry for Dave who had a beauty on the line. It was taking line for over 10 mins non stop! He was playing the fish for all he was worth when some ejeet casted over him, snagged his line and then it was gone.
Going by the rest of the day I would have loved to see what was on the end of that!

Roy,

Never mind, better luck next time! Sure your wife can give you lessons! I see it was a good day - unlike my last trip there - maybe i will need some more lessons when i come back. Nice to see that my posting has helped a few people, even us newcomers can help! I will buy you a beer when we meet - but that will be at least 6 months.

Anyone, On directions, there are some really good ones posted in the middle of this thread with photos to help.
