Fishing Restuarant

Postby thelord » December 14, 2008, 12:29 pm

Does anyone know if there is a restaurant on the ring-road where you can do a spot of fishing and the restaurant will cook what you catch?

When I was in Udon in April my cousin pointed out such a place to me as we whizzed passed. It looked as if it had salas that were set up next to a lake. Just in front of the sala you could set up a rod and in the sala you could have all your food brought to you.

Has anyone been to this place?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You might be thinking of Orchid Hut, roughly U-3 on Udon Map. It is located behind (east-northeast) Global House / Bo Bay area. The signs are in Thai, so best to have a local help you drive to it.

There may be other restaurants/fishing spots as well.

Yes, Orchid Hut would fit the bill. Just go out of town on the road past Nong Sim; when you get to the ring road (you will see Global House down on the right) go straight across and take the first road on the Right (about 75 yards). Keep going about 2km through the village of Nong Na Lam until you see temple gates ahead of you. There will be a blue sign on the right for Orchid Hut (coca-cola sign) called 'Ruan Oaui Mai' in Thai.

Staff speak enough English. I spent half my holiday last month there, very peaceful. Fish are mainly Pla Nin and Pla Tabien (tilapia and silver barb) with a few snakeheads.

Thanks Rick, I will be sure to check it out. Can they cook the fish if you catch one?

The TW is into a bit if fishing so it sounds like it could be a good day out!!

They will cook if asked. If you do not catch, They usually have some live fish in the tank for you. Also fresh shrimps from the lakes. It is a nice relaxing place to chill out without going far out of town. Not a place for big fish, just fun fishing. Fishing can be variable, some days nothing, others 20 or more if you put some effort in. If quiet, good for stretching out and an afternoon nap.

I went down there today and checked it out. Directions were great (cheers). The girl there was friendly and helpful and gave me a 10% discount card for future use. Seems like the perfect place as you say Rick as it is close to town but quiet and relaxing.
