Foam mattress

Postby kakariki » August 6, 2008, 9:31 am

Hi
I'm looking for foam mattress or a sheet of foam, queen bed size about 50mm thick, to put on top of a "rock" mattress to make it more comfortable when I stay here
Any know where I can buy some.
Thanks Barry

On the ring road - going from Tesco towards Big C it would be on your right hand side, just past Global House - Index is the large sign outside it...

Totally agree Kakariki I will be buying one when i come back.

Whats the point of buying a bed thats as hard as a rock when the floor is softer. And most likely cooler too.

I know it can be a hard life in thailand but make it softer if you can! Geez!

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look.
My problem is I'm 55 and have slept on a water bed for the last 30 years, and any thing I sleep on other than a water bed is very uncomfortable, especially the hard beds here.
I visit a few times a year for a few weeks and stay in a popular hotel, so I'll use it then, and keep it at the inlaws until the next trip.

kakariki, some of the better quality mattresses I've seen in many funiture stores (inc Index and Home Pro) have like an additional quilted layer on the top of the main mattress, intended I believe to give a softer more cossetted feel.

From your comments about sleeping on a water bed for many years, I would guess that you are looking for a very soft (or ideally floating) feel. It may well be worth giving the ones I have described a try. :D

Sorry, I've just re-read your post and spotted that it would be for occasional use when you visit here and in hotels. Would an Air Bed give an appropriate feel. I don't know if you could fill one with water??

Have you looked into buying a waterbed here, kakariki? Or, if you're in Oz, shipping one to your inlaws to hold for you?

I was doing some googling myself a week or so ago and did find this one: http://www.waterbedthailand.com/index.php?p=main.
They claim that they have showrooms in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. No response to my email but haven't tried calling them yet to get prices and locations.

A couple of years ago I was looking for foam sheets and found several shops/warehouses that stock all sizes, thicknesses etc. which stock them for the upholstry trade. I can't remember exactly, but they were in one of the sideroads opposite the Karin Hotel. Hope this helps.

saw what appeared to be a Tempurpedic mattress and HomePro about 6 weeks ago. That's the foam like product that molds to your body.. I laid down on it and found it exceptionally comfortable. Around 30,000+ as I recall which is around Stateside prices for a Tempurpedic..
