good post brian , and you obviously know what it feels like to be a saints supporter these days . i say supporter because thats what we do , support . or did when we were U K side . it must be quit nice to go to a game knowing that yourve got a very good chance of picking up 3 points . or starting the season with high expectations that you will finnish top three , if not champions . but to be honest if i chose all over again , i would still support southampton , its my team , and always will be . as a kid i did support chelsea , not because they won much , but because it was my dads team and he took me most home games , when the shed was indeed a shed , and you were a million miles away from the pitch because of the dog track . when i stopped travelling and settled in southampton i lived near the dell and walked to the match every home game . man what a ground , so close to the action , you could hear the players f~rt , and what great football . you could never ever bank on any result , yea we would get beat a lot , but really great football , with plenty of goals . only second div in them days but never a dull or boring game , and the atmosphere in that ground was nothing but awesome . st marys is a lovely ground and in my opinion they tried really hard to get the same atmosphere as the dell , but never the same .

Unfortunately Accrington Stanley have had a winding up order taken out against them by those carefree souls at the Inland Revenue so sadly their giant killing days may be numbered

Hi Doug. I understand all that you say. My father took me along to Chelsea and would, I think, rather I had opted for them than the Palace. But somehow i felt more comfortable at Selhurst and possibly that dog track and distance from the players had something to do with it. Derby’s Baseball Ground was, perhaps, the place I felt really close to the pitch, in that you half expected to get a kick yourself – of the ball and possibly from a Derby fan too! 8-[
Of course, I visited the Dell many times. Terry Paine always sticks in my mind as a pain in the ar*e to Palace. The ground certainly intimate, but the loo facilities for away fans had to be seen to be believed. What is the Guinness record for number of people peeing in a single pot?
Possibly my last visit there was after Palace had lose 0-9 at Liverpool in a midweek game. So I wasn’t exactly optimistic going down there at the weekend, but Palace regained some pride with a 1-1 draw. Never got to St. Mary’s, but think my three sons have been there. My middle son, in particular, determined to pass my total for away grounds visited.

Shame :(

I'm not pointing the finger at Chelsea in particular, but just how daft things have become. Frankly, that example is vulgar when you think how that money might be put to use in the world.

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has put a price tag on winger Franck Ribery of "at least 100m euros (£87m)".

"If I hear that there was an offer for 125m euros for Kaka, then Ribery has a market value of at least 100m," said Hoeness.

Agree that would be a real bargain buy 747.. United should have never got rid of him - another of the personal clashes with Fergie rather than for footballing reasons. United still have not replaced him.
I know he is a little injury prone but if he is playing & gets a chance he doesn't miss many of them.
Would be an asset to just about any of the Premiership teams (& would certainly be in my FF side!!!!)

From football transfers thread:

Some text removed.
Zidane wrote:Must say I'm a bit surprised by the Liverpools fans silence on this thread.Maybe they are worried that with the money United will sign up Gerrard and Torres given Liverpools dodgy finances ! :crying:

Anfield seems a bit quiet. Only rumours with no signings as yet it would seem. I would have actually thought the rumour mill might throw up it's annual Gerrard saga but nothing as yet. I would have even put money on it being Inter Milan! So far it seems to be Arbeola to Real Madrid and Mascherano to Barcelona in exchange for Samuel Eto'o. I like Mascherano but I'd like Eto'o at Anfield even more. I wonder if there would be enough money in the kitty to buy Makelele from PSG.

Anyway I hope they can get this new lad fit in time for the new season.
