Appears top 3 all have injuries.
Chelsea - Cole (3 months on fractures in his left ankle)
Man U - Giggs (1 month on fracturing his right arm)
Arsenal - Arshavin and Song (but both 'possibles' for next game)

Sven maybe at the World Cup as a Manager...
Former Notts County director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson could be on his way to the World Cup as Nigeria and the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea both want the Swede to take over as manager.

Two close results in The Champions League last night.
AC Milan 2-3 Man Utd
Lyon 1-0 Real Madrid

United should go into their home leg reasonably confident of going through thanks largely to two Rooney goals. Only real black spot was the Carrick sending off in injury time.
Madrid must feel that 1 goal down will mean that they can still qualify. However Lyon have proved to be a good footballing side & pretty resilient this season.

Everton 2-1 Sporting in the Europs cup. Everton were cruising through at 2 nil up, but a late penalty means a nervous tie in Portugal in the next leg.

Stoke 1 - 1 Man City in the only EPL game played. Stoke rest nicely in 11th. place as City creap up to 4th. above Pool. I gather Citee were not exactly at their best & had to reply on Stoke going down to 10 men to earn a draw...

You are probably correct Zid, but as I wanted to cover all 3 (Champions League, Europa & EPL) so I thought I would drop here. If United get through after the home match I might even start a new thread just about it!! :D :D
The rumor bit is rather because I did not believe it when I read it this morning. I though United would get beaten out there, a draw at home & so out of the cup. (Oh yea of little faith :D ). Especially when I heard that Vidic & Anderson were not even traveling. United second string defence have done remarkably well this season - I do not even think we will miss Vidic when he goes to Spain in the summer. As I rated him as the best defender in EPL last year that is certainly saying something in favour of Jonny Evans. Rooney has played out his skin this season. As Ronaldo won us a EPL on his own I think that honour will be done to Rooney if any silverware comes Uniteds' way this year.

I'll let you off,Bob. :D
Certainly Evans has done great this season and should be a regular for years to come.Vidic, surely will go,and Ferdinand is increasingly injury and error prone so I think United will have to sign a central defender in the close season.....maybe off to Fulham, again,to snap up Hangeland ?
I think the key to United having a chance of winning anything this season depends on Rooney. He has more than made up for the loss of Ronaldo this season. If he gets injured United are stuffed and so are in England.
Having Berbatov and Owen in reserve is not much of an option.....surely they will have to get another striker pre-season?

Funnily enough I was reading about the salaries of the top 50 footballers....which includes...

1.Ronaldo 2. Ibrahimovic !! 3.Messi 4.Eto'o 5.Kaka 6.Adebayor !! 8.Tevez 9.Terry 10.Lampard 14.Gerrard
20.Rooney 24.KANOUTE !! 26.Drogba 31.Robben 35.Barry 42.Ribery 43.Beckham 44.Bridge ! 46.Berbatov

One or two surprise there but the biggest one,for me,was Torres down at no.34.I reckon a bigger club will be in for him soon.....would be nice if it was United ! :D

Certainly an interesting list Zid.
I don't quite understand the belief that Ibrahimovic is such a great striker. I was just so surprised when Barc swapped Eto'o & cash for him. I rate Eto'o a far better striker, OK maybe him & Henry are a bit same, same but i know which i prefer in my side. Kanoute has made a bit of a name for himself in Seville. An average of a goal every other game (65 in 138) is not a bad return. Never really rated him in EPL & his return was nothing like that (14 in 60 for Spurs). but some players just are not suited to the side they are in - look at Forlan - 10 in 63 at Old Trafford, Villarreal 54 in 106 and Atlético Madrid 59 in 89 .... :D :D

Flavio Briatore has stepped down as chairman of Queens Park Rangers Holdings with immediate effect.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 525530.stm

The QPR ownership 'dream team' of him & Bernie Ecclestone which stepped in during September 2007 does not have seemed to achieved much - except hot air. They are currently 19th in the Championship table and have lost their last five matches. Stability has hardly been the watchword of their reign.
But since they they have had an amazing 10 managerial changes and 47 players have been signed by the club.

Where they go from here I do not know.....

I read this on the beeb today & it sort of intrigued me - as I am not really a gossip column reader even when it comes to sports stars.
Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has put the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona on alert over his future because he is unhappy at the way he has been treated at Stamford Bridge over the issue of his personal conduct.

It was the "he is unhappy at the way he has been treated at Stamford Bridge" bit that got me...until I read this on Yahoo a few minutes ago.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/22022010/ ... -fine.html
UNHAPPY???? What a first class waster. He shits all over everybody - his wife & family - and lies to his employers and he is unhappy that they might actually have the gall to punish him for it.
Personally if I had anything to do with Chelsea I would be on the phone to Barca telling them he could go today!!

Well said,Bob.As a person he is the pits....but its not only the GALL to punish him,its also the GIRL !
Apparently Cheryl has texted him to say their marriage is over and is planning to divorce him whilst the World Cup is on in South Africa to humiliate him !
It would be ironic if he failed to recover from injury in time for the World Cup Finals and Wayne Bridge took his place.
But I do think that John Terry would have gone up in most peoples estimation if he would have done the biz with Cheryl instead ! 8)
If I were Chelsea I'd transfer Cole to whoever wanted him without any qualms....what a tosser !

In something of a carry on from the above story.
Capello may unfortunately have his hands tied on picking Cole for England World Cup attempt - if he is fit.
Wayne Bridge was the obvious replacement - well, actually I believe he should have been first choice over Cole as he is, in my opinion, far the better defender - has ruled himself out of any future involvement in Internationals. This is because of a dispute he has with John Terry over Terry admitting to having an affair with Bridge's ex-girlfriend.
I think it is one of those situations that only Bridge knows what is right for him. If he still feels such antipathy towards Terry then he has made the correct decision. To change his mind would be foolish & counter-productive I think. It will be better for Capello to concentrate on bring in a possibly third choice & amalgamating him into the team.
In a twist of fate (which so often happens with these things) Terry & Bridge will be opponents on Saturday when City play Chelsea. In the event that Terry collects the ball when Bridge is within leg distance then I suggest he hooves it as far away as possible quickly!!

If Cole isnt fit in time for the World Cup then I am wondering who will play left back for England ?
Baines,Lescott,Konchesky, surely not.....maybe Warnock from Villa (ex Liverpool).
Terry can count himself lucky that he is such an integral part of Englands chances of success at the World Cup.If it had been a fringe player in Englands squad who had done the biz with Bridge's missus then they would have been out on their ear.....such as Woodgate,Foster or Lescott (heaven forbid) for instance !
But its not just Bridge that Terry will have to worry about tomorrow....the City players will be pretty fired up for their teammate.....chances of Terry picking up a serious injury and missing the World Cup,anyone !

Ok, I'll try and put a different slant on the Ashley Cole story.
Yes, I agree he's not been the ideal husband, but don't forget the press are looking to sensationlise this story to make Cheryl look squeaky clean and put Cole in a bad light. But there's always two sides to a story.
Apparently Cheryl, despite her good looks, is non to hot between the sheets and sex has been off limits for a long time. Add to that, she moves her Mother into the married house, is it any wonder that Ashley strayed when it was handed to him on a plate. Don't forget this is the same angelic Cheryl that was found guilty of racially abusing and physically assaulting someone in a nightclub toilet. Whoever her next partner is will need to be a doormat if the relationship is to succeed.

Regarding Bridge, he needs to grow a pair of balls. Yes, it wasn't nice what Terry did, but Bridge and this tart had already split up. How long did Bridge think he could have a say in what his ex did? He needs to grow up and move on. His ex did.
