For myself. I have been a lifetime supporter of Arsenal since the age of seven . My first match was at White Hart Lane in 1942, no they weren't playing Spurs, but Chelsea. The reason for this was , at the time, the pitch at Highbury had been transformed into a huge anti-aircraft gun site and actually a German bomb had landed and destroyed the entire clock end , so all home games were played on alternate weeks with Tottenham at The Lane .At this time owing to the restrictions of war time travel most of the London clubs formed the London League, which Arsenal won in its first year, scoring an impressive 108 goals in just 30 games .After the war a much depleted side were almost relegated in 1947 until staging a late rally and finishing 13th behind champions Liverpool. In 48 with the appointment of Whittaker as manager they started the climb back up the ladder, where they have stayed almost consistently since .Nowadays with the absence of any trophies for 6 years many lifetime fans are disappointed, after all for a successful club, coming second is losing, but I think their loyalty is unquestioned. I am not a great football tactician but I feel the team are missing a strong leader on the field, in the manner of Tony Adams .The team is possibly too young and need some maturity in it .A blast from the past .
