Free room in Pattaya

This was posted in TV under Pattaya News clippings, supposedly form the Bangkok Post. i have looked at Post but I can't find anything about it. Think it's for real guys?

Pattaya to woo visitors with free rooms

BANGKOK: -- Tourism operators in Pattaya plan to offer free hotel rooms from May 1 to Oct 31 to attract local and international tourists during the low season.

Apart from hotels, restaurants and shopping malls will also join the campaign, offering discounts up to 50%. Final details will be decided tomorrow.

The seaside resort city is facing difficult times because of the global economic recession and local political problems, said Chatchawal Supachayanont, president of the Eastern Chapter of the Thai Hotels Association (THA).

"With this campaign, we hope tourists and meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (Mice) activities will be lured back to Pattaya again and tourism sentiment will improve as well," he said.

Mr Chatchawal said Pattaya's hotels had about 20,000 rooms and that all operators would join the promotion.

"This is the first time we have had co-operation from all parties, aiming to restore Pattaya's tourism image," he said.

"Average occupancy was not so bad at around 30-40% after the Songkran festival. But we are very concerned about reservations from overseas, which are not coming yet."

Pattaya's image took a hit just before Songkran when red-shirted protesters forced the cancellation of the Asean Summit after they stormed the meeting site, the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel.

Operators in Pattaya hope that when Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva goes abroad he will be able to explain the problems in Thailand and how the government intends to solve them, in order to restore confidence among visitors.

Thats cool Ya doen't really define anything as to how it will work. But stay one normal price and night free wouldn't be all bad. Chance to see an English movie, Burger King I need my health food every now and then. Might make for a nice break from Udon. Not my favorite place but shouldn't be as crazy as normal. For me it's like Vegas good place to visit but I don't want to live there

Wife hated it to many bars and women and that was mid week at 1100 hours, I didn't take her back in the evening :-"

Now lets see where it goes.

Yuo know I think Jack is right it's not the banks, a form tax collection,

trubrit wrote:I asked about this in the bank yesterday.I was told it was an extra taxation levied on the banks by the govt, so they get no benefit themselves.Incidentally it doesn't apply to my ATM cards issued on a Singapore bank.

Hey there is hope for me yet I was right : ;)

I realy cant see this idea taking off, firstly who or what are the hotel staff going to get paid with if rooms are free. And im sure there not going to run the Hotel overheads, electric. gas and staff wage's with hardly any income comeing in. Lets be honest your not going to get anything for free in Thailand. Even a STD has to be paid for.

Free-rooms in Pattaya...right....I believe. Heard they just rescheduled that ASEAN summit
for Phuket now that Pattaya has proven itself to not be a secure location even with "security"
personnel numbering in the thousands for the event. The real unfortunate in this situation is
that PEACH convention centre which will now forever be tainted by this political chaos.

Anyone notice no real specifics given, so could very well be smoke and mirrors again. When I see the requirements then I will believe they will do something.

Hi, Between 2000 and 2005, when i retired out here, i used to come to PTT every summer for 8 weeks. In all the six years i was coming here, no pun intended, I have always seen hotels offering this, ie. Stay four days get another two, or one day free or similar. They all had big signs outside the hotels offering this, so this is nothing new, just got better advertising to try to encourage more people to come here in summer. I don't think i am stupid enough to think i can go to PTT between these dates and get eight weeks free hotel accomadation. If anyone knows differently will you let me know and i will bring the wife an myself down to PTT. and stay at that hotel.
Cheers Doug.
